Have you ever wished your guy would go to yoga with you? I have, and my husband always says no! But, today we have a yoga expert to share tips on how to get your guy on the mat-stat!
September is National Yoga Month, and New York-based, Emmy-winning journalist-turned-yoga-teacher, Christine Chen, who's currently penning her own yoga guide book, is here to share some tips on getting your man to the mat (and just think, you could even have a yoga wedding some day-or not):
1. Find a yoga dude. If your guy is a dude who normally likes team and contact sports, he might be more receptive to a teacher that he could see as a friend. In other words, you have to set the scene for yoga "bro-mance." The teacher whom you love (you know, the incense-burning, mantra-chanting, Sanskrit-speaking woman) may alienate him. He might also need to see that dudes-like him-do yoga too.

2. Explain what's in it for him. Share with him that yoga is a combination of physical challenge and mental relaxation. Explain that many yogis report better sleep, less stress, greater focus and performance at work, and enhanced sports skills from amazing, deep core work.
3. Don't nuke his ego. Pick a basic class or open level class so your man will be able to do at least some of the poses, yet, get inspired by the challenges within the class. Stretches and shapes will likely be foreign to him, so there's no need to make him feel intimidated or silly-and scare him away forever.
4. Set up the teacher for success. Before the day of the class, chat with your chosen instructor and give him a heads up about your reluctant newbie. Let him be informed and aware so he can do his best to help. The instructor doesn't have to be a man; in fact, there might be a woman who's best suited for your situation.
