It's possible to make game-day snacks healthier! It's possible to make game-day snacks healthier!

It's Fall, football season is in full swing (Go Pats! OK, that may be a little biased on my part) and so are the tailgating parties and at-home munchies. While you watch the game you're more than likely to grab a snack (or several).

Instead of completely bailing on your attempt(s) at healthy eating, switch it up a bit. It is possible to have tasty treats without the day-after caloric hangover.

Registered Detician Christy Wilson, has some amazing ideas for the next tailgate or just for watching the big games at home. She offers up some yummy alternatives to the traditional football fare for the those refined Pig-skin palates.

"Vegetarian chili is a great tailgating food! Tons of veggies and beans. These foods are high in fiber and hearty," Wilson says. And for the meat-lovers among us Wilson recommends lean turkey. "It's a meat-eaters pleaser."

So how about some portable foods for the traveling fans?

Wilson says guacamole and hummus are particularly good options since they're safe to keep outdoors. Fruit will add some sweet to your savory and is also a great go-to, grab quickly snack.

She also recommends soft shell corn tortillas with grilled chicken or beef (some quick tacos) to satisfy that hunger.

She suggests raw veggies and some light dip, which is both great on the go and right on your table.

And for the avid grillers out there you can still have your burger(s) and feel good about it according to Wilson.

"Use lean turkey or lean beef on whole grain buns. Grilled corn is delicious as well."

So while you're cheering on your team remember: Enjoy your food and enjoy not feeling quite so bloated when you jump up to yell at the refs on the field or just to scream at the television screen!
