The Lazy Girl's Guide to Getting Fit

It's one thing to want to get fit, but it's a whole other thing to actually do it. Going from couch potato to enthusiastic exerciser takes some serious motivation and a fitness plan that's easy to follow.

    David_Kirsch_weight_loss_fitness_beauty_tips.jpg (400x600)

We went to celebrity fitness guru David Kirsch--the man behind the bodies of Heidi Klum and Anne Hathaway--to get his tips for getting your butt off the couch and working out. His simple plan will help you get toned, without having to morph into a total gym rat.

    Set Reasonable Goals
The easiest way to discourage yourself is to set an unreasonable goal--there will be no way for you to hit it and you'll wind up getting frustrated and giving up. Kirsch recommends setting an obtainable goal, such as "I want to lose five pounds," or "I want to fit into my skinny jeans." It's also important to be realistic about your time frame and the amount of exercise you do each day. "Don't start off at two hours a day--you'll burn out," says Kirsch. "If you are not sure what you're doing, find a good trainer or training material to guide you."

Eight Ways Sex Makes You More Beautiful

    Movement = Exercise
"You don't need to go to the gym to exercise," says Kirsch. The easiest way to start your new fitness routine is to incorporate exercise into your daily routine. "When you get out of bed in the morning, before heading to the shower, do 15 knee bends, 15 lunges and 15 crunches. When you're making breakfast, do some isometric contractions: squeeze and release your abs, your butt, your thighs," he says. Get your body moving with a 10 minute express workout--be it yoga or stretching or cardio--every day before work. "If you start that way and build from that, you're more likely to stick with a program," says Kirsch.

    Find Time For Fitness
Feel like there's no time in the day to squeeze in exercise? Kirsch says that any exercise is beneficial, no matter how little. "The reality is that our lifestyles are conflicting and everyone has different physical needs for exercise. Ideally, you should be doing an hour of exercise a day, but if you can only find time for 10 minutes, than 10 minutes of focused training beats doing nothing," he says.

    Stay Focused
According to Kirsch, the number one biggest mistake women make while exercising is not focusing on what they are doing. That means no more cell phone, no more magazines and no more TV while you are working out. "You need to make the most of your time at the gym while you are there. Sitting on the treadmill and talking on the phone doesn't give you the exercise you really need. Whatever you are doing, focus. Connect your brain and your body so you can really focus on what you are trying to accomplish," he says.

This is why these "real lazy girls" are more than likely overweight. Keep making poor excuses and nothing good will come out of it. The moral of the article is to start small and work your way up. You can drink all of the slim fast you want, take as much Alli as you want, and sit on your butt all you want: NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN! I'm not a shining example or anything, but I've lost more than twenty pounds, but it's taken more than two years to get there, the last fifteen pounds within the last three months. Start small. I work in thirty-minute workouts five or six days a week. Those are small and doable. The exercise on top of the lower calorie diet is the winning combo. All of these excuses on here should stop. The only person keeping yourself out of shape is you. I work 9AM-7PM five days a week. I have a daughter and a husband. We both work full time. I'm not looking for sympathy or hoorays, rather, I'm showing people that it's not as hard as you all think. Start small, find things that you like to do. change it up. And happy weight loss!

I'm not saying getting moving isn't important, but I've been doing the slimfast/ special K diet for only 4 month and I've already lost 36 pounds, so don't knock it until you try it. That was with doing no more working out than playing with my toddler like I always do...the point is, if you're gaining weight, change what you're eating to something more healthy and try to get exercise when you can...

People who are overweight and try to lose all their weight right away will never succeed. You didn't put the weight on overnight, so it'll take some time to get back into shape as well. But somehow, some people choose to ignore that fact. So this article is a good outline for getting started.

Or you can do what I did... join a fundraiser for an amazing cause (mine is to conquer cancer) which requires you to bike 50miles within 2 days! I'm really going to have to get in shape for it....

I was not losing weight and inches until i started to think in miles. 3 miles on the elipse machine did it. At the rate of 4 mph or higher. Now i do 2 miles on the elipse and the rest on the reclining bicycle for 45 minutes total at the gym. The pound are falling off and I am not starving myself. I do this everyday.

It's called an elliptical and a recumbent bike. They do work well. I have taken to the bike as well since my knee has been diagnosed with patella femoral syndrome. I just use the treadmill for about 1-2 miles, then off to the bike.

well not all out of shape people are overweight... Take it from me I am 52 120lbs on a wet day but it seems like workin out is a challenge for me due to my lack of energy because of medical reasons... But then again it could be challenging because I tend to jump right into things I will most definetly try again starting out slow, I am a mother of twins an at times it gets hard to keep up with them..

you complainers on here kill me, I cant this, I cant that, I cant get up that early, or I have 6 kids and I already weigh to much to start. NOTHING WORTH HAVING COMES EASY.....HELLLO ....MCFLY 1st lesson in life. You can find something healthy to do even if its small, and work your way up. Once you do it for about a month you'd be surprised how addicting it becomes

I have used an app on my Nook to count calories and to do yoga and many other workouts. I've never been able to stick to anything before. Writing down everything you eat, and tracking burned calories from exercise has made me really confront my poor choices. I find myself looking at the calories on everything before I put it in my mouth. "Is this really worth it?" I eat healthier and feel better than I have in 20 years. I'm losing about 1 lb per week and it has done wonders for how I feel about myself. The longer I keep with it, the easier and more natural it is becoming. Six months and happier than ever.

Before my accident I tried all kinds if things including buying expensive gym memberships and DVDs. I did take up walking every morning and hula to make it easier to get fit. This helped a lot after I had my car accident(not my fault) and ended up breaking 22 bones. Then it was simply a challenge to learn to dress, stand and walk. I have a whole binder of exercises I am suppose to do but eventually I worked in some of them throughout my day like doing stand and squat on the toilet or small exercises on the bed before getting up and stretching while hanging on to the chair by my computer. It's easier and am seeing some differences/

One thing that has really started helping me is to set a timer for every hour. When the timer goes off I get up and do 30 reps of something, such as jumping jacks, squats, etc. Every few days I add 10 reps. This in addition to at least 20 minutes of working out every day is really starting to help the weight come off. Drinking plenty of water works wonders too.

No couch work-out? I like to lay down on the sofa and lift five pound weights. Definately doesn't go under the cardio column though. Dancing works.

What about deciding on if you want to lose weight for health reasons or to look better? I can understand losing a lot to get people to stop looking down on you for being maybe 50 plus pounds over, but to look just as "attractive" as magazine models might be a little extreme (says the very short girl at 120ish pounds).

Some people, like myself, need to lose weight to prevent type 2 diabetes, and its not 50 lbs, more like 20 lbs. Exercise also helps depression, high blood pressure, strong bones for women, etc. Many many health benefits.

Looking good is the reason most of us workout. Fortunately the side effect is better health.

I love to exercise, but I still have to laugh at it. You go to the health club, you see all these people and they’re working out; they’re training, they’re getting in shape. But nobody’s really getting in shape for anything. In modern society, you really don’t have to be physically strong to do anything. The only reason that you’re getting in shape is so you can get through the workout. So we’re working out, so that we’ll be in shape, for when we have to do our exercises.

Nothing helps the one's that only talk about it . Just do something , and you will see a difference eventually .Maybe that will spur you on . When I retired out of the Navy I weighted 180, at 6 foot , today 43 years later I am 5-11 and weigh 240 , What happened , not enough activity .

Mick and his girlfriend, Summer, have the ideal fitness routine according to Mick... Summer runs on her treadmill out of doors in the dead of winter in the raw buff while Mick relaxes on the sofa watching out through the window while she runs.
Summer is an exhibitionist and I have been over to Mick’s place at times when the temperature is below zero and there she is out there running her behind off. Mick says Summer makes him shiver his weight off. It must work well for him because for a diehard couch potato he sure is fit and trim... I mean seriously he is...
