Recently, I came across the TRX Suspension Training System. The system allows you to do hundreds of exercises using nothing more than a single anchor point and suspension straps. Sound a bit strange? Here are the details:
What it is: Suspension Training ® is a method of leveraged bodyweight exercise. It was designed by Navy Seal and founder of Fitness Anywhere. It is extremely portable and allows you to safely perform hundreds of exercises that build power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and prevent injuries, all at the intensity you choose. Apparently, this system is utilized by the military, which implies that even the toughest, most in-shape individuals get a good workout from TRX.
Benefits: If you travel, this is a great way to stay in shape without access to a gym...or for that matter a good gym. The TRX is less than 2 pounds and contains no ridged pieces making it especially easy to pack in your suitcase. Because of its simplicity, it doesn't require very much set-up time, as long as you have a strong anchor point situated overhead...such as a door. Finally, because of its versatility (no in-place, bulky equipment), you can workout your entire body and all muscle groups.
Drawbacks: You may have a difficult time finding a strong enough anchor point that will also work in a hotel room. Although some exercises can be done to get your heart rate up to a cardio level, the system is not meant for long stretches of cardio. And...for the price of $150, it isn't light on the pocketbook. However, yu get a lot more than just the equipment...this is what you get...
