The benefits of walking

This has been a great week. I have been working out every day and pushing myself. I am back to eating a balanced diet that includes natural sugars from fruits and complex carbs from whole grains. I feel so much better than last week.

I did jogging sprints for 6 miles two days this week. I hit the gym twice this week and did an hour of cardio and abs. I walked 6 miles yesterday. Today I walked 10 miles. Walking is powerful. Just when I was starting to question the effectiveness of walking I came across a couple articles that confirmed my beliefs. I believe that walking is great for helping one stay grounded, process through life events in general, clear one's mind, and get fresh air and vitamin D (assuming the sun is shining). I also believe it to be a great low-impact cardio work out...assuming you are walking at a quick pace. I walk fast so my walks are always a great work out.

There is so much conflicting information out there that I started to doubt the effectiveness of walking. I have heard things like "Walking doesn't do anything. You have to really sweat!!" and other similar comments. I started to doubt my beliefs about the power of walking. Then, I came across several articles/blogs that confirmed my beliefs. One is a simple post about a person's use of walking to help solve problems. I also know several personal friends who swear by walking out their problems. I also read an article about several different walking work outs to help people lose weight. The links are below:

So, I am steadfast in my beliefs about the power of walking. It is also a great way to get exercise while giving my right ankle a chance to heal after I hurt it early in the week when I did not stretch properly before jogging. Remember to stretch. Remember to walk. And remember the yoga involved in this marathon that we all run called life.
