I agree the prices are high. But this article is important for serious walkers. I wouldn't pay this much for shoes to go shopping in. I am doing the Susan G Komen 3 Day walk and you have to spend money to get shoes that will hold up for the hundreds of miles of training and then 60 miles of walking on the 3 Day. I tried cheaper shoes and was in agony. The shoe that works for you is totally dependant on your feet and on the type of use you have. This article is important for me. I wore New Balance last year and am looking to see if I will replace them with another New Balance shoe or something else.

Rockport all the way! They are higher priced, but will last a lot longer. My wife wore her mothers Rockports after she passed away. These ProWalkers lasted or ten years, and her mother would walk 3-5 miles a day.

DO NOT BUY TONE-UPS/ SHAPE/UPS!!! I work at a chiropractors office and we have seen a huge increase in low back, knee, ankle and other injures due to these shoes!!! They do NOT do what they claim. They change your gait which cause anatomical imbalances in the body.

Didn't test Sketchers Shape UPs, too bad. The only walk/jog shoe I can wear. Terrific heel, arch and ball of foot support. I was not able to jog because my shins ached so badly, then tried Sketchers and feel nothing in my shins. I treat myself to a new pair each spring, not because they need replacing. I move the older pair to yard work and gardening wear. Look for the sales and coupons, bought this year's pair for $48. Divide that by 2 or 3 years = $24-$16/year. Good buy.

I'll take two of the Ecco BIOM Walkers, please. One in black, one in grey @ $175 each. So I can feel like I'm walking barefoot since that is a growing trend! And for these minimally padded shoes, I will pay $350 + 6.5% tax ($22.75) for a grand total of $372.75. Right on! And, if I order them online I can add shipping costs.

I just bought a fantastic pair of Columbia walking shoes on sale at Cabela's for under $50 (tax & shipping included)! Check them out; especially their Bargain Cave at www.cabelas.com.

If you have bad feet like I do, you will pay any amount to find a pair you can walk in. I stopped buying my kids cheap shoes at Wal-Mart or K-mart because they feel apart or wore out much sooner than the expensive shoes. It cost more in the long run.

Take care of your feet!! You have no idea how hard it is when your feet can no longer deal with the stressors of daily life!

The modern running shoe causes far more injury and pain than it does good. The muscles in your feet are the best support your feet can get, but when you essentially put your feet in casts (shoes) everyday, the muscles become weak. Who turns out more great long distance runners, America with its expensive, fancy running shoes, or third world countries where shoes can often be scarce if available at all?
Think about when the modern running shoe was invented, then think about when people started having foot problems on such a widespread scale...you might discover the dates to be quite similar. Think about how many years people have been running and walking around barefoot without these problems. What is more likely, that the human foot is a genetic disaster even though the rest of the body seems to function quite well, or that modern businesses have created a mechanism that creates problems and thus more opportunity for them? You train for a marathon for the next decade and replace your shoes every 6 to 10 months, and I'll put my money on the 10 year old Kenyan kid that's run around barefoot all his life to beat you every time.

Most of the examples look like clown shoes. I wonder if these manufacturers ever considered that a lot of people would be embarrassed to wear something that looked so hideous. Did you ever notice that you can't buy a toothbrush that looks plainly stylish anymore? The all look like, well....clown shoes.

I would like to see well made shoes made right here in the good U.S.A. it turns me off to see that we are buying goods from china and America is being hit so hard. we must woke up and try to stop buying goods from other country's we are going to be looking behind us and guess who we will see.

I have ankle and feet problems and while ive never tried THIS brand of Sauconys...I have to say Saucony shoes are the best shoes I have ever worn...they dont wear out fast even though I wear them almost EVERY day...they never need broken in...I bought a pair the night before I went to Disney world for 8 days...no probs at all...so comfy and are always on sale at Famous Footwear for about 50 bucks...and i only replace mine every year...and thats usually cause I want a different color...not because I have too...and I always keep my older pairs around incase I want to wear them...or yard work...or just in case I miss place a pair. I highly recommend these shoes.

I second the Wal Mart comment. They even have wide widths. Why pay $100 when you can pay $20 and have happy comfortable feet? I bought one of those $100 shoes and have worn them so I can't return them. I am now kicking myself because I went to wal mart and got a back up pair for $20. Seriously.

I have worn ( out ) Reebok Easy Tones twice. I walk 3+ miles 5 days a week on a bike trail. I really love the Easy Tones---my feet never feel tired in them.

As far as I know, New Balance are the only sports shoes made in the USA! Sometimes we have to make decisions based on price, and that's understandable. But if felt good to see the pride of the people working on these shoes, right here in the US! Something to think about--plus, they do hold up much better than the cheaper shoes. I NEVER buy cheap shoes; as I get older, I find they do not hold up and end up killing my feet and back!

Thanks Audrey, tell yours friends and co-workers about NB, I do all the time and convinced many to purchase NBs, even my Moms boyfriend (she's a widower who loves to walk).
