True Colors
2010-03-28 True ColorsIf you ask a five year old what their favorite color is you will probably get a straight answer; one of the primary or secondary colors or perhaps pink for little girls. As a child I had so many favorite colors that my response became a litany; deep cobalt blue, all shades of purples, aqua, and mint green, until I learned that all colors where contained in the color white, then white became my favorite color because I simply couldn't choose just one.
When my older sisters chose basic colors for their wardrobe, I was often teased when I wore my purple patterned skirt with the violet sweater, so for a time, I denied my real color preferences so I could fit in. Later in life I learned that all the things that made me different then, are all the gifts that make me unique now.
As an artist I love color, especially purple and today I have a purple cell phone cover, a purple mug for my tea, a purple, pen and a purple car. Who I am and what I love makes my life joyful and colorful and I won't have it any other way.
