Do you buy gifts for your coworkers during the holidays? The answer to that question varies from workplace to workplace, but whether you have an office grab bag, or choose individual coworkers from a hat to exchange gifts, or you want to get a few coworkers something to mark the holidays, here's a good rule of thumb: Keep it light and keep it inexpensive.
We've rounded up a few fun-to-functional ideas, all under $20. Chime in with some of your own favorite gifts from and to coworkers past.
NBC"Office" memorabilia -- If you find yourself recapping some of your favorite TV shows with a coworker every week -- perhaps a TV show about working in an office -- a show-related gift may be just the thing. True "Office" fans will get a kick out of this $5 Dunder-Mifflin badge holder, especially if you work in an office that requires you wear a badge all day. The price is right, though it's only a winner if "The Office" is a hit with your coworker. But you get the idea. You can sub in other work-related TV show paraphernalia, like this "Rural Juror" mousepad from NBC's "30 Rock." ($12.95)
Etsy/tdgarcinTravel coffee mug -- But not just any travel coffee mug. Be on the lookout for one that is fun and unique, like this personalized mug from an Etsy seller, which will make anyone heading out the door to work with coffee in hand a little less bleary-eyed. Great for coworkers who love coffee or tea but don't want to use disposable cups every day. You choose the insert and thread color and font for a monogram that is included in the price from Etsy seller tdgarcin. ($12.50)
Noise-reducing earphones -- Because sometimes we all need to cancel out the noise around us and listen to some music while we work or destress in the middle of the day. These JBuds Hi-Fi Noise Reducing Earbuds do the job very nicely at a very nice price. ($15.25, amazon)
Coffee gift card -- You can't go wrong with a gift card to your coworker's favorite coffee place, or a gift card to the favorite lunch place near the office. Be it Starbucks, because there's one just about everywhere, or a local coffee house, it's a nice gift because a latte and other favorite hot drinks are a true treat in these tough economic times. ($5 - $20)
amazon.com1960s vintage-inspired pen necklace -- Looking for cool pens $20 and under, I came across this necklace pen that would make a fun gift for a (woman) coworker who loves pens, loses pens and is enamored with the early '60s stylings of the TV series "Mad Men." This may be a little too specific an idea, but giving any kind of out-of-the ordinary pen is a nice way to take the mundane out of the everyday act of writing at work. ($20, amazon)
