There's only a few weeks left until Christmas, but if you haven't started your gift shopping, don't worry. There are plenty of great gifts available, and you don't need to fight your way through the local mall. You can find gifts from these companies that give back part or all of their profits to charity. What symbolizes the Christmas spirit better than helping someone truly in need?

We've rounded up 15 ideas sure to please someone on your list.

    Seasonal ideas

Christmas-themed gifts can be enjoyed as soon as they are opened.

These gorgeous angel votive holders are made from sheet metal in the Croix des Bouquets tradition of Haitian artisans, and each sale supports the work of the designer and his family. These angels will light up a mantel or tabletop for years to come.

The Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol" as performed by Jonathan Winters, provides a fitting soundtrack for a family gathering, and it's sure to spark some conversation. Plus, it benefits National Public Radio.

    Fashion ideas

If you know a young woman who never seems to get what she wants for the holidays, check out this pretty, graphic baguette clutch (made from discarded Doritos bags), similar to one that was featured in the movie, "Sex and the City." These upcycled clutches provide jobs for 40 women artisans in Peru.

These Mekong Blue scarves are available in 21 colors and hand-knit by the Women of Cambodia's Stung Treng Women's Development Center. The work helps them earn "a fair wage, escape a fate in the violent sex trade, learn workplace skills and gain educational opportunities for their families."

This delicate necklace repeats various sayings in braille (like "hug" and "kiss") and benefits the American Foundation for the Blind.

    Sweet ideas

For the person on your list with a sweet tooth, the Dancing Deer Company's Sweet Home Pick cookie collection includes a selection of delicious chewy cookies and - just as sweet - you'll know that 35 percent of the price helps homeless mothers and their children to fund educations, find jobs, and move into homes of their own.

Chocolate lovers will appreciate Chocolates for Darfur. The handmade dark chocolates, which feature colorful maps of Africa, have creamy fillings such as carmelized plantains, Kenyan coffee, and cardamom. The proceeds help fund a women's center and feed malnourished children in Darfur.

Or how about Snickerdoodle cookie mix, a perfect activity for kids and parents over the holidays? The proceeds of this bagged mix go to the Women's Bean Project, "an innovative social enterprise in Denver that benefits women with a history of poverty and chronic unemployment."

    Ideas for men

Men aren't always easy to shop for, but these great-looking Beats Solo HD headphones designed by Dr. Dre are not only stylin' - they're connected with the (RED) program and part of the purchase price is dedicated to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa.

Guys always need underwear, right? Pact Underwear is made from organic cotton and toxin-free dyes and benefits a variety of causes. (Check out each pair of undies to learn which cause benefits.)

    Ideas for women

For the active woman on your list, these alpaca scarves made by the Asociacion de Artesanos Andinos in Bolivia are lightweight and incredibly warm, and they help pay a living wage and support health and literacy projects.

Another option is a yoga bag from Global Girlfriend made from durable waxcloth by women in Uganda who directly benefit from each sale.

Fingerless gloves have never been more popular. Whether for moms on the go who need to button a child's coat or anyone who needs an uncovered finger to text on a touchscreen, we've got an idea. These gloves from Global Goods Partners are made from alpaca and are dyed with all-natural dyes by women in Bolivia who receive a fair wage plus additional educational and advancement opportunities.

    Just for fun

Fun, random gifts for anyone on your list include Betty White's comic book. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association.

TOMS shoes have a simple premise: Buy a pair for yourself (or for a friend), and second pair will go to a child in need. The simple design and wide variety of colors make these shoes suitable for just about anyone on your list.

Children in developing countries often aren't allowed into school without shoes, so this purchase could help a child get an education. The shoes work well as around-town slip-ons or even as a cool slipper substitute.

The bottom line: When you're doing your Christmas shopping this season, keep in mind how the gifts you buy can also have a positive ripple effect on others.

I have to agree with many above; I realize 3rd world countries are hurting and live in horrific conditions however, I see plenty of illness and poverty in our own country. Schools without books, nursing homes cutting back on cares and activities that are very beneficial but that they cannot afford to pay staff to do due to unfunded mandates and gov't cutbacks are just a couple of things. So my resolution for the upcoming 13 months is to do one thing every day to make someone else's day brighter. It may be dropping them a card, sending an email or making a phone call but just reaching out we can make America a better place.

There are plenty of starving artists in the United States who are quite talented. Support locals before you go somewhere else. Remember, charity begins at home/Physician, heal thyself. Nothing that makes me more sick than do gooders who overlook the fact that there are starving Americans in California, the Appalachians, and on AIRPLANES. At a swap meet in Costa Mesa, CA, a young lady and her friend make wooden frames by hand for $10-40-the same cost as what it would take to buy a Chinese made frame that is worse in quality, worse for the environment, and benefits the sweatshop owner who is definitely a Communist Party member. BUY USA, esp local. Just remember-in California-Chinese who buy new tract homes overwhelmingly give their landscaping/construction jobs to Chinese companies, not to African American, Caucasian, or Hispanic/other companies in the industry.

I am an artist that is dedicated to fighting Alzheimer's Disease. Inspired by my Grandmother's battle with Alzheimer's, I have created a collection of Alice in Wonderland meets Alzheimer's art that is featured on T-shirts, bags, jewelry and other accessories. A donation of 50% of the proceeds is given to the Alzheimer's Association. Someone develops this awful disease that strips someone of their memories, mind, and own identity every 70 seconds. Please visit www.alicetease.com to learn more about my art and Alzheimer's Disease. Thank you.

I only saw 1 or 2 items in the wole list I would want. Make sure you check the charities you donate to - many of them are just scams keeping people employed. What a waste.

Actually, we did receive international aid after Katrina.
It was embarrassing because the federal government was so slow in reacting.

The only thing on this list I would want is the comic book. Was interested in the headphones until it said the charity it donated to. I don't donate to charities that benefit people outside of my country.

ALL purchases through theanimalrescuesite.com help feed animals with no extra charge to the buyer. You don't even have to make a purchase to help. Whenever you click on their box, one of their sponsors donates food to an animal shelter. On the same site, you can pick other charities who donate to other causes, if you do not want to help animals. This is available all year.

I firmly believe that charity begins at home and that each country should support their own needy and poor. In this economy, more than ever, we have starving children, millions of people with no health insurance, millions of jobless, countless street people and more right here in the USA. I do support the Salvation Army, St. Jude's Hospital, and other American charities.

We have plenty of our own families, in our country, that are hurting. It's time for our country to adopt the "Charity starts at home" philosophy. We've given so much, sometimes too much, to countries that turn around and slap us in the face. I wish harm to no one, I just want my country to come first this time. Tired of the nonstop giving when we can't afford it. I give to the Salvation Army, I know they help our people. Have a Merry Christmas.

Charity begins at hoem. Very few of those benefit AMERICAN poverty.Don't step over your own neighbor to help someone around the globe first!

I'm buying as many gifts as possible from the Animal Rescue Site this year.

      http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=3

It's a great site with proceeds going to funding for Animal Shelters (With the economy the way it is many shelters are being over-run by animals that people can't afford or homeless animals from evictions/foreclosures). They have a lot of great stuff and a section where you can make a donation directly to a certain cause. They have options to donate to specific animal charities (helping the homeless feed their animals, horse rescue, help for dogs in haiti) and also options to donate to childrens charities, cancer charities, and environmental causes. With every purchase made they tell you how many bowls of food your purchase is providing for shelter animals.

Also on Ebay you can look for ribbons next to item listings, these auctions have chosen to give a portion of the winning bid to a charity, it will tell you on the item page what charity will benefit.
