Nuts are certainly health. Buy organic if you can afford. If not, raw and unsalted. Dairy, and meat is not healthy for anyone at any time. And also companies market food that can lower cholesterol, but the only way you can lower cholesterol is to stop eating cholesterol. Cholesterol only comes from food from animal sources. We make cholesterol, because we are animals. Therefore you don't need cholesterol in your diet. Vegfamily.com, pcrm.org, vegnews.com and vegweb.com can help with great holiday recipes.

To the first person who commented: Christians can eat red meat in Christmas. I think you are getting Christmas confused with Lent. Lent is when Catholics(I'm not sure about other Christians) do not eat red meat on Fridays,Ash Wednesday and (I think) days during Holy Week. Just wanted to clarify. Also, Christians can eat pork. Only the Jewish people and Muslums are restricted from eating pork.

It's Christmas!!! I will enjoy allllll the tastes of sinfully rich, decadent foods and NOT feel guilty! It only comes once a year!! I plan on indulging in all the wonderful treats that Christmas has to offer! What happened to having fun? The foods mentioned here are served all year long!! What's special about that??? Lighten up people!!

Utterly unbelievable! Can you imagine that, in the land of abundance, where food can be grown just about anywhere and consumed by everyone and where hunger, somehow, persists in the lower classes, the calorie fight reaches epidemic poportions during the very season where we are supposed to reflect gratitude. This is, also, the land where anorexia and bulimia thrives among those best able to afford the very best in consumables. In short, America is the LEAST grateful nation on Earth in that it CANNOT spare itself this vanity in order to put family enjoyment and its' bounty first. For God's sake, starting in October, these people have to endure the pain of eight weeks of holiday thanks and the gift of God-provided food out of 52. Just shut up, open your mouth, dine in gratitude (for something to gripe about), enjoy Aunt Martha's egg nog cheesecake and Grandma's yearly oyster stuffing, and remember that there are, literally, millions of people around the world who would give anything for the opportunity to get obese in their own backyards, only if you can get past that image of vanity staring out from the mirror. For God's sake, get over YOURSELF. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and, remember, you will NEVER achieve that air-brushed fantasy you are desperately seeking.

Tomorrow they will say that these foods will cause cancer or heart attacks. Eat in moderation and exercise. Some people have all the answers, but you only know how your body responds to things. Might mention that olives have a lot of salt, like pickles for those that have to watch their sodium intake. This isn't new news-common sense is the key.

Love this article- it gives good tips without making one feel like they can't have any of their holiday indulgences like some healthy eating articles do. I thought the soft vs. hard cheese one was too vague though- sure regular brie might have less cals and fat, but if they are serving a double or triple-cream soft cheese, the hard would be the better option.

IM with mistique...just dont gorge yourself at any time of year, and get up and move around as much as possible. I do that, and pretty much eat whatever I want and am almost too thin. eat slow, and then you enjoy your food more, and you know when your belly is full. Not so full you dont want to move, just full enough. Works like a charm. Healthy stuff is wonderful, but only when a person doesnt have to obsess on it and can eat some decadent things too :)

Sorry I want my traditional sugar & fat laced goodies....it's once a year. So take your progressive liberal agenda down the road to some atheist holiday.

In the case of cookie vs. cookie, both are winners. Cookie Monster taught us that long ago.
