Jennifer Lopez leaves American Idol behind

(AP Photo/ABC, Philippe …Not to be out-shined by her former co-star Aerosmith front man, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez announced last Friday that she, too, would be leaving American Idol. Unlike Tyler who wants to spend more time with his legendary band, Lopez looks to acting as her latest projects. The award-winning actress and singer told Entertainment Weekly, "I do miss doing films. I feel like the last two years with American Idol, I've really, really focused on, you know, my music. … It was all kind of very synergistic, it worked really well together,"

According to the official Jennifer Lopez website, it's with mixed emotions that the star leaves the show. "It's just been a really long, tough process, I really have been torn. When I signed on to Idol, I signed on to do one year. I ended up doing two years because I just fell so in love with the show. I never felt so much part of a family of something working on it as I did with Idol. I didn't know I'd be so moved emotionally. It was just such a lovely surprise in my life to do it. But even last year, it was super tough to decide. I have my movies and my music and my this and my that. It all kind of worked together for a while. But it gets complicated. Something has to give. And I think that's where I am right now."

Her long term focus may be on reviving her acting career but J.Lo still has a world tour to start and finish. The kickoff for the Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez tour began on July 14 in Canada and finishes on November 22 in Dubai.That's a lot of singing and dancing!

While fans will hate seeing her every week on American Idol movie fans will welcome the star back to the big screen. She's had plenty of hits like "Selena" and "Maid in Manhattan" as well as a few stinkers like "Gigli." Overall, critics seem to like Lopez's performances, describing her as "thoughtful" and "convincing."

Whatever she does it will be with two kids in tow, four-year old twins Max and Emme. Jennifer Lopez divorced their father Marc Anthony in 2011. Despite the separation, Anthony and Lopez continue to have an amicable relationship.
