Many people avoid cooking in the summer because the added expense to keep the home cool is just too much. Unfortunately, the same meals can get boring. Whether you're fixing salads or want to have a warm meal once in a while, you can do something different for tonight's dinner. Best of all, you won't have to heat up your home. Here are just a few tips on how to keep summer meals interesting.
Try New Ingredients
During the summer, you probably prepare many of the same meals. For most people that includes sandwiches, salads and other cool weather meals. One way to instantly make these meals more interesting is to try new ingredients. Whether it's a new type of luncheon meat or new toppings for your salad, you can make your meals more interesting.
Do Theme Nights
Another easy tip you can use to keep summer meals interesting is to do theme nights. Theme nights force you to get creative. While you may be able to come up with Mexican and Italian meals for the first few weeks, eventually you will need to seek out new recipes, which can make things even more fun. You can even have crazy themes that appeal to the kids. The idea is to just have fun.
Have Everyone Pick Out a Meal
If you really want things to be interesting, ask each member of the household to pick out a meal for each night of the week. Not only does this keep things interesting, but it also ensures that everyone is happy with the menu. You could even combine this idea with the theme idea and have each person pick out a theme.
Use Different Cooking Methods
Last, but not least, stop clinging to the grill to cook your meals. There are a number of ways to cook meals inside the home that won't overheat the house. One of my favorite methods is to use the slow cooker. You can also use pressure cookers. You can even use your toaster oven to cook small items. This will open up so many more ideas for your summer meals.
Summer meals don't have to become boring after mid-July. There are a number of easy things you can do to make summer meals more interesting. Whether it's to use new cooking methods or to do theme nights, you can create meals that you actually look forward to eating.
