YOUR FRIENDS' ACTIVITY

How to keep working out fun!

Keep working out fun and stay in shape. How many times have you quit a workout program because it became tedious or you just couldn't find the desire to work out? For some, just getting exercise is hard enough, but when you don't enjoy what you're doing, it could feel even more torturous. Instead of thinking you have to 'exercise' try to think of it as 'getting activity' - that way it seems less like a chore. Here are a few ways you can find something you like to do so you get in your daily activity and it stays motivating and fun:

Inspiration - Do you want to fit in a great bikini this summer or do you have travel plans and need to walk everywhere? Finding a reason why you want to get exercise will help you think of it less like a chore and something you want to do for yourself and your lifestyle. Hang that special outfit up where you can see it every day or put pictures of your vacation destination on the refrigerator so you get a daily dose of motivation. A countdown clock always works, too!

Workout Partner - Whether you and your spouse exercise together or you enjoy taking a group class at the recreation center, working out with someone gives you the motivation and accountability needed to keep exercising. Torch plenty of calories at a spin class and try to make friends before the session - those friends will help keep you going and you'll have time to socialize - making it a win-win!

Pay for Classes - For some, paying for group classes or a gym membership is motivation enough to work out. Since you don't want to waste your money, you'll make more of an effort to go - and you can make use of all the amazing amenities at the fitness club, including the sauna or steam room. Those two areas in the gym are all the reason I need to partake in a fitness class and then relax.

Music - For me, music is an essential part of a workout. Music energizes and motivates you to work hard during a gym session, or you can use your smartphone to watch a favorite television show - before you know it, the show will be done and you just spent 30 minutes or more exercising. Check out applications like Pandora, which has fitness-inspired music stations for any type of workout - amazing!

These are a few ways to develop motivation for working out. For most, setting aside time is hard, but when you make getting activity fun, you'll be more likely to do it. Work out with a friend or just use the time to zone out and relax after a hard day at work.
