Use Leftovers to Clean Your Home

Getting ready to throw out an old onion or bottle of used ketchup? Before you do, consider using them to spruce up your home. According to Linda Cobb, the Queen of Clean, these kinds of leftovers can be used to clean your home. Manipulate them the right way and save on your Ajax and polish.

    Onion

Is that onion in your refrigerator looking a little sour? Don't toss it without removing the rust from your knives. If you stick them in the onion for a couple of hours and pull them out, they will glisten and be rust-free.

    Mayo

Use your leftover mayo to clean your wooden table. The ingredients in this condiment condition wood and polish them like oil. Be sure to apply your basic mayo and rub well. Buff out with a soft cloth.

    Ketchup

The properties that make up ketchup also make a great polish. Apply this sauce to a soft rag and brighten up your copper. Rub gently. Rinse and dry well afterward.

    Baking soda

Keeping your refrigerator fresh with an odor-absorbing box of baking soda? Use this leftover to clean your kitchen sink. After it gets old, dump the box down your drain along with a ½ cup of vinegar. The combination with sanitizes and freshen your drain.

    Lemon Juice

Don't let your brass get dull and rusty. Add salt to the juice of an old lemon and rub over your pieces. The combination will remove any spots and make your brass shine. You can also add tartar sauce to lemon juice and remove rust from hard surfaces as well.

    Clear Soda Water

Has your soda water lost its fizz? Use this leftover to clean your white appliances. Clear soda water leaves no streaks and can add shine to these pieces. If you still have liquid left, add it to your plants and cut flowers to extend their life.

    Potato

If you can't figure out how to get the mud off of your clothes, go for those old potatoes sitting in the back of your refrigerator. Cut them in half and use the rough edge to pull out the dirt. You can also use them shine white shoes. Just rub the spud over your shoes, let dry and buff out.

Take Cobb's advice and use your leftovers to clean up your home. You can save money on expensive cleaning products and live well at the same time.
