    By Andrew Knowlton, Bon Appétit

Exactly how far has the American food revolution come? You can measure it in baguettes. Here's where to find the best Pullman loaves, ciabatta, and sourdough boules in the country.

Della Fattoria (in Petaluma) has the best bread!!! its in a super cute town just 30 miles north of SF. definitely worth checking out. Spend the day munching on delicious food and shopping downtown!

For the really great ryes and pumpernickel there is none better than the New Palace Bakery in Hamtramck, Michigan. For the best pizza and salad try Loui's in Hazel Park, Michigan. Keep in mind that Detroit has two of the largest pizza chains in the U.S. and the local pizzerias can hold there own against any!!

That's the best in Chicago? D'Amatos on Grand and Palermo's on N Harlem are way better.

I've often wondered, who was he greater genius, Albert Einstein who gave us relativity, or the first person to discover how to make a loaf of bread. I know which one had the greater impact on humanity.

I have very fond childhood memories of a bread my grandmother had every Saturday morning during the summer. It was salt rising bread that she would toast for breakfast. She lived in Schlater, Mississippi but she got the bread somewhere in Greenwood, Mississippi. One of my sisters found it in Memphis, Tennessee several years ago but doesn't remember where. Do you know of any bakery that might carry it? I have tried to research but have no clue as to where to start. If you have any suggestions as to where I might find some, PLEASE let me know. Any help you can provide would be most appreciated ! ! I will anxiously await a response from you. Thank you and best wishes for a wonderful Christmas ~ Sarah Vincent nana4loves@yahoo.com

You missed one. Bread and Cie in San Diego hasn't been around all that long, but the bread is spectacular and the cinnamon rolls are to die for.
