When I heard that one of my favorite businesses was having a closeout sale due to a move in locations, I couldn't pass it up. With prices slashed by at least 50%, I knew I had to go shopping. But, what does one buy at these sales? While you may be tempted to grab everything that looks good, it may lead to buying pieces that you can't match with anything. However, there are some purchases you can't pass up. Here's what to look for in a going-out-of-business clothing sale.
Basic Pieces
Basic pieces are always your best bet. This means tops that can be paired with a simple pair of jeans or dressed up with a skirt. You might also purchase sleepwear, shorts, active wear, etc. The idea is to look for pieces that won't go out of style quickly, such as bras and underwear.
Evening Gowns
Sales like these can be an excellent time to save on dresses. I saw gorgeous evening gowns that would have normally been $300 marked down to less than $100. If you have a special occasion coming up, then this is the time to buy. It's also a great time to update your little black dress.
Jackets
Jackets that can stand the test of time also make a great purchase at going-out-of-business clothing sales. You might find a double-breasted wool jacket for less than $50. Best of all, it's something you can wear until you grow tired of it.
Handbags
I'd like to say that I was able to score a few handbags from my favorite designer, but alas the handbags had been well-picked. If you want handbags, arrive to these sales early.
Accessories
Accessories are another great item to purchase at these sales. Belts, scarves, jewelry and more can be found along side the other great deals. In fact, the store I was shopping at had the accessories marked down lower than the clothing.
Shoes
Last, but not least, this is a great time to feed your shoe addiction. I saw pairs of shoes that were normally over $60, marked down to $15! Alas, this was another area I missed out on. Apparently everyone wears the same shoe size as me.
If you see a going-out-of-business clothing sale, do not pass it up. This is a great time to add basic pieces, accessories and more to your wardrobe at a fraction of the retail price.
