10 Cities Most Comfortable with PDA, and 10 Cities Least Tolerant of PDA

    By Erin Meanley, Glamour magazine

Well, this is surprising. According to new data from Chemistry.com, singles living in Miami, Florida do not like PDA. Yes, Miami: where people are often thought of as wearing little clothing. The city ranks 95 out of 100 for comfort with PDA, in fact, and Las Vegas, a.k.a. Sin City is 92. And the places where people are most into it?

Shockingly, New York City, which is often associated with being home to rude and unfriendly people, and Waco, Texas (when I hear that name, all I can think of is David Koresh and the Branch Davidians). But they love their PDA. Honolulu, Hawaii, however, loves it most.

"PDA is more than just public passion; it is a highly visible social signal telling others who belongs to whom," said Dr. Helen Fisher on The Spark, Chemistry's official blog. Fisher is a biological anthropologist and chief scientific adviser to Chemistry.com.

"The cities most comfortable with PDA have a preponderance of the personality types Negotiators (expressive of the estrogen system in the brain) and Builders (expressive of serotonin). These individuals are naturally predisposed to showing their affection," explained Dr. Fisher.

See if your hometown or current city ranks...

Here are the 10 cities most comfortable with public displays of affection:

    1. Honolulu, HI

    2. Pittsburgh, PA

    3. Lexington, KY

    4. Charleston, WV

    5. New York, NY

    6. Fresno, CA

    7. Waco, TX

    8. Cedar Rapids, IA

    9. Syracuse, NY

    10. Des Moines, IA

The 10 cities least comfortable with PDA are:

    91. Reno, NV

    92. Las Vegas, NV

    93. Seattle, WA

    94. Orlando, FL

    95. Miami, FL

    96. Phoenix, AZ

    97. Denver, CO

    98. Tampa, FL

    99. West Palm Beach, FL

    100. Ft. Meyers, FL

Is your city on one of these lists? Which is it? Do you have a personal theory why one of them ranks the way it does? Are you comfortable with PDA?

I love how half the cities that don't like PDA are in Florida. And yes, being born and raised in Miami I can say that you will get sneers from EVERYONE in the daytime. Once the sun sets that's a different story: South Florida does have the biggest fetish community in America. The same people who look at you and your partner in digust in line at the grocery store, you bump into in line to enter the Fetish Factory or Miami Velvet. I love the hypcrisy.:)

I don't mind a kiss and a cuddle but all out tongue, extended make out sessions and groping makes me physically sick, I love my husband but I don't feel the need to let everyone see how we share our affections other than when we hug/kiss goodbye - call me prudish but I like to keep anything else private.

In general PDA can be to much when it's getting to the point of expressing/exchanged/exploring of fluids..but also cute; example married for 30+ years it nevers goes to far but far enough to express the love there sharing.

PDA means Personal Digital Assistant, nothing more!

Fascists came up with this "Public Dispalys of Affection" crap.

I believe holding hands, hugs and short kisses are fine. Anyone who has an issue with that can look away and get over their jealous issues.

when someone or something makes you feel good
is "really" bad to to express it?
      does it make others jelouse?
      or is it envy
or should I hide my sweet emotion
      to make people feel proper?

now I am not here to say, have sex on the "public" in the "public"
at your expence but I am not going to sell my self of being happy

i live in the extreme southern part of texas. i think that the south tends to be less accepting of PDA. the south is conservitive. i dont have a problem with PDA, but the older generation would. my husband and i hold hands and peck kiss, but no making out or feeling up.

I think a true "PDA" is just fine. It's the public displays of passion that really get to me, and I am sure is what makes most people uneasy.

Affection isn't the same as passion. Affection is stuff like like holding hands, wrapping an arm around someone's shoulders/back, or a relatively short non-French kiss. It is just a way of showing someone you appreciate them. It's also something best given in low doses.

Passion is doing something that is intended to turn someone on. Things like making out or groping aren't just going to make someone feel appreciated, they are going to make them start to feel "more excited" if ya know what I mean.

I guess it's easier to lump public displays of passion with PDA, but they are fundamentally different.

umm who came up with this list, I've been to many cities on both lists and they are way off. I must say I'm a non-pda guy please people get a room and leave it there I don’t need to see your tonsil hockey, it’s not romantic, it’s not sexy & none of us care about your attempt to get attention.

Nothing compares to Rome, Italy, where people of all ages makeout in public like they are all alone. I saw people put their hands down their partner's pants, dry hump, and practically give lap dances in that city, not at night or in a party district but in broad daylight in parks with playgrounds and families hanging out. Have to say, I thought it was over the top!

I laugh at posts like this because where did they get there information? Just pick a random 100 people off the street in a town and say "Okay! The whole city or area feels this way!" I love it. Turns out that's how they took the marriage and divorce rating now. The rating isn't even a scientific data statistic but more a poll.

Completely agree with Cougiex also. I'm from Minneapolis and most people I know aren't comfortable with passionate PDA, but normal PDA that isn't meant to make anyone uncomfortable but rather to appreciate your partner is always acceptable.
