In August 2008, People confirmed that actress Christina Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her mother had been a breast-cancer survivor.
After a double mastectomy, Applegate was happy to be cancer-free, but opened up later to the magazine that getting through the battle was easier, thanks to her fiance Martyn LeNoble, "an angel." She explained that her fiance and her have been friends for over 13 years and he made her feel beautiful with a new body after the surgery.
"Our relationship gets stronger and stronger," she said. "I'm really lucky. I'm very grateful to Martyn for coming along at a time that he did because he's been my rock through all of this. He gave me something to really want to live for and something to smile about." less
