For most guys I date, I never even think about their accent as being a factor in their attractiveness. Because most guys I meet in New York have an accent I refer to as "Ugh, who even cares, it's not British." Zzzzz.

But that's not fair. Being a U.S. born-and-raised citizen with my own native accent (that I insist is NOT an accent although I definitely notice differences between the way I speak in New York and the way I speak at home in Ohio), I should be more appreciative of our own locally-grown, North American accents.

And some people do enjoy many of the accents our continent has to offer, although frankly, people are not appreciative enough of my native drawl.

Based on a survey of over 2,000 people by Cupid.com, here are the eight most attractive accents in North America--along with the percentage of people who chose them and the male/female split in opinion:

1st Southern - 36.5% (45/28)
2nd New York -16.5% (10/23)
3rd Western - 13 % (16/10)
4th New England - 10.5% (8/13)
5th New Jersey - 7% (4/10)
6th Canadian - 7% (3/11)
7th Midwestern - 5.5% (8/3)
8th Mid-Atlantic - 4% (5/3)

Alright y'all. I'll admit a Southern accent can have a certain charm, but ouch for myself and the rest of the Midwestern-raised folks.

What do you think is the sexiest North American accent?
