Looking like barney with a forced french hairdo, while the other girls had "homespun" french hairstyles.

I was guilted into being a bridesmaid in a wedding of my friend’s friend. ‘Nough said.

I was in three weddings in one year once-- as MAID of HONOR each time. Want to talk about expense? In my area (not sure if this is true everyplace) the Maid of Honor hosts the shower and the bachelorette party-- shelling out the money on her own. It was the most expensive year of my life to date. Grand total, I paid more for those showers, bachelorette parties, the gifts, and the dresses and accoutrements than I spent on the down payment for a new car (note I have not bought a house yet. . .possibly because of wedding party expenses, come to think of it).

And I never plan on getting married. But with the number of weddings I've already been in, I am going to have to out-do Liz Taylor to recoup the money I've spent in this lifetime being in and going to other people's weddings.

Needless to say, since I'm in my mid-30s now, the wedding demands are getting fewer-- except for the fact that I have a bevy of friends in their mid to late 20s who are beginning the cycle all over again. When they ask me to be a bridesmaid, I say, "I'm honored you would ask but I've done my time in weddings and you have a ton of cousins who should be included before me."

And I might add that the former Maid of Honor also usually plans the divorce party. So you get it on both ends-- spend spend spend to marry off your friend and spend spend spend to cushion the blow of a failed marriage or celebrate the fact that she got rid of the abusive/lazy/unfaithful jerk she never should have married in the first place.Odd, isn't it?
