Disney's Newest Princess is a First

Source: Disney's Newest Princess Is a First

I guess Disney's decision to stop making princess movies was a half-truth. The fairytale film company is introducing a new Disney princess, Sofia the First, who for the first time will be a little girl. The younger princess is meant to attract preschoolers and be a positive and educational role model in her TV movie and series. According to a Disney GM, Sofia will have "plenty of pretty dresses and sparkly shoes," but "what makes a real princess is what's inside, not what's outside."

Hopefully the new pint-sized princess's younger age will mean she's doing more than waiting for her Prince Charming to come, but it seems like just another way to market the princess culture to an even younger generation. What we're really excited to see is the courageous Princess Merida in Pixar's Brave, who challenges her family and country's customs while wielding a bow and arrow on horseback - now that's a real Disney princess "first." What do you think about the new preschool princess?

All I can say is I certainly hope everyone will stop trying to point out wrong things. Stop criticizing Disney's beautiful creativity. Stop being negative. If you have a dirty mind your going to find dirty stuff in anything if you try hard enough if you find something wrong its your fault not theirs so learn to control your filthy mind. Be thankful we have such a wonderful company that has brought us such wonderful work, such wonderful creativity, and beautiful clean meaning. im sure no one van do it any better if you have complaints lets see you prove your point lets see your work let's see how easy u think it is.

If you look into it there are actually a lot of sexual subliminal messages in Disney that you don't notice right away. I don't have a dirty mind but when certain things are pointed out, they're actually rather obvious. Also, what this article is talking about is the marketing of "Princess behaviour" which encourages kids to act spoiled and fuss until they have the best of the best, like pretty dresses and sparkly shoes. That's all.

the thing that really gets me is a lot of media and parents act like disney movies and other tv products are what is teaching our children! WE should be teaching our children, by explaining to them and teaching them by example the morals that they should learn, not by blasting tv shows who don't show them. My girls both LOVE princesses and all the Disney movies. My girls (2 and 4) are not shallow nor materialistic(not saying that this is the message they portray just what close minded people see when they see princesses in general). I have made sure to encourage the morals and behaviors I want from my children myself. When they watch the movies they look for those morals and behaviors because they know how important they are to our family and growing up. I don't think there is a single thing wrong with these movies! I am just so sick of parents thinking because someone is beautiful or wishes to have riches or a handsome prince that our girls will be brats. WE decide whether or not our children will be brats-not Disney.

Wow what's even more surprising are the comments! It's "Fantasy/Fiction" something for kids to enjoy while growing up, it's a "phase" nothing more! My goodness stop reading into it so much and just let your kids enjoy being a KID! If your being a "Parent" and teaching your kids what is fact from fiction you don't have to worry about video games, cartoons, or anything else! The problem is the adults reading so much into it. Society is getting ridiculous. I loved to read CS Lewis "Chronicles of Narnia" growing up I didnt' think I was going to find a fairy tale land with talking animals! I enjoyed "Star Wars", "Scooby Doo" didn't mean I believed I was going to be flying off to space to fight Darth vader, or my dog could talk! I just enjoyed it.

What is wrong with waiting for Prince Charming? I like the princesses because they require their men to be a certain way and if it takes a long time waiting to find him, so be it. And the princesses want more than just a Prince Charming; they are seeking freedom to be women and all think for themselves, they are about breaking down classes/races because its senseless, and they want better treatment for all people. I think they are good role models for little girls because I never want my daughter to "settle" for anyone but the best, and I want her to treat everyone the same regardless of race, size, religion, etc. She has learned that the good we look for in people is on the inside, because that matters most.

Mulan was a female of worth and a whole lot higher on the social totem pole than Belle or Tiana. She is closer to a true Princess than the ones who become one by wedlock. Pocohantas was a chiefs daughter and that made her a Princess. Disney is now coming around to changing their marketing on the Princess line by adding other characters, but traditionally it was Aurora, Snow White, and Cinderella. Then Belle was added. Now they are adding to that. A princess to our girls should be the ones that show their worth, not just a pretty face and fancy manners.

Cinderella married her prince to become a princess. Cinderella as well as Belle showed their worth, grace and strength of charcter. Our girls should know that, too.

I don't think there was anything wrong with princess movies. Never once did I hear a princess saying that this guy was too ugly or he didn't have enough money or all she wanted was shoes and dresses and to loaf around being waited on all their life. Each princess (and non-princess) wanted more from life, wanted to be independent and free, wanted to protect the people they cared about, wanted true love, followed their dreams and always seen the good in the people most judged. What is wrong with a little girl growing up with these morals?

The only one who was obsessed with shoes was Cinderella, and that was because she didn't have any

i get that the target audience is 5 and 6 yr. olds but why did Disney change the way the little princess looks so much? Disney has a great "hand drawn" look and signiture style of animation that i feel is a big contributor (besides the plots) to why they are so well remembered and highly revered, looking at this newest addition i couldnt even tell it was a Disney creation. i am not impressed and quite frankly it is a cheap imitation of the visual art that i have come to expect when i hear Disney. i hope the pictures they have are just an Archytype because there is soooooo much room for improvement!

Movies are computer made now and much more cheaply. Walt Disney must be spinning in his grave. He made movies for families and never "targeted" a group. He would be apalled. When businesses leave the family that they started with, the product Always declines.

And then came technology. We use the tools that are available to us.

Tangled was a very carefully crafted and art-directed film, and its animation sets a new standard for CG film. Really you should watch it before saying anything bad about it. It was very good and I think Disney would be proud. And CG films aren't cheap to make. Tangled cost something like 20million more to make than The Princess and the Frog.

Im mad that mulan wasnt a real princess. secondly what is wrong w/ materialism? everyone wants 2 b pretty. people care about, people who care about themselves. Plus disney isnt doing anything different than every fashion magazine out there. Even the kidz bop magazine is geared twards materialism. money makes the world go around, If they see these things that they want, they will realize they must work to achieve it. I thought that was Disneys message in the princess and frog? I am also rooting for a plus sized, lymphoma, cancer princess. Just to show that not everything is all and well when your a princess. Even people w/ money cannot escape the burdens life brings upon us. Show the children how to be strong and how to get through it. Maybe that will teach kids that eating/smoking/bad habits can cause trouble, and then show them how to arise from the ashes, like a pheonix!!
