Four Looks I'd Love To See On A Girl This Summer

First, thanks for your feedback on my blind date with Lauren. I'm planning on giving her a ring soon to see if she wants to hang out again. It's definitely not a sure thing, but that's OK-I'm taking a que sera sera approach to life these days.

So after hearing me wax rhapsodic about Halter Top Day, I wouldn't blame you for assuming that exposed flesh is all I care about when it comes to your summer wardrobe. In fact, I always prefer a well-dressed woman who's not showing a lot over her unfortunately-attired twin who's rockin' some serious cleavage. With that in mind, here are four looks I've recently noticed on the sidewalks of NYC that leave me panting like a Labrador in August:

In my humble opinion, aviator shades look great on both sexes. In my humble opinion, aviator shades look great on both sexes.

Small Sunglasses: Are giant Jackie O shades still cool? I hope not. Y'all have beautiful faces--there's no need to hide behind lenses the size of airplane windows.

Fitted button-down shirts: Buttons are fun. I like all of these.

Strappy sandals: I don't know why, but gladiator sandals really do it for me. Maybe it's a light bondage thing? Or because Romans are so damn sexy? Regardless, I may be in the male minority on this one.

Cut-off shorts: What's good for the goose is good for the gander. All joking aside, the girl in this photo could give Daisy Dukes a run for her money. I can understand why you might not agree with me, but how can your argue with professional fashionista Tracey Lomrantz, who also digs the look?

Are you into any of these styles? What are you looking forward to wearing this summer? What summer looks do you think are sexy?

Oh my god these so called looks are hideous , ewwwwwwwwwww!!! I will never wear that ...I do wear daisy duke shorts showing off my legs only if it is really hot or if I am at the beach. But whats up with the gladiator shoes lol that turns you on lol that is so lame might as well wear a toga and hit a halloween party. If I wanted to turn on a guy I would wear some sexy heels with a sinple pretty dress...

I'm a grandma but the cutest looks I see on my daughters are cotton sundresses with pretty sandals, or layered tanks over longer length shorts or jeans. None of them do too short, too tight, or too low cut although they are little size wise. THe spaghetti strap gauze, ankle length dresses are really pretty too. The Daisy Duke thing went out in the early 90's, imho.

Well I live in Parker, AZ and it gets to 120 degrees or so with the monsoon weather in August. Being right next to the river, everyone is pretty much living in their swimsuit wear and it's hot to trot here. It's a very laid back place and friendly. I don't see cut off shorts anymore but short shorts are the thing with a see through see over the bikinis IS covered up here!!! But all in all i do agree with the huge sunglasses thing. Women have pretty faces and they are cuter than most of the men here, so the big sunglasses have to be banned!!
      LOL!!! xoxoxoxo

Cut off shorts look so incredibly trashy! It's fine if you are trying to be funny wearing them for a photo shoot or maybe a costume party...but come on. In real life it just reads cheap ho or sloppy dresser. Maybe wear them around the house for your man but put on some damn decent shorts for public viewing. But then again if your goal IS to get lots of sexual attention then hey...go for it. Just be aware of what you are advertising.
Sunglasses...Aviator styles remind me of cheesy porn stars, 70's drug dealers and Top Gun. Yuck. Not attractive images to me. While I do think the big sunglasses look does make a person have "bug face" it's still better sun protection than smaller sizes. So it wins with me. I actually think the bug eye look is kinda cute.

Could we all dress like we care a little more? Here's a word to learn...CLASS. Cutoffs?! The frays hanging down are um, hot not. What I'd like NOT to see this summer..too short sweatshorts & cheap flipflops. Tacky. And men, skip the baseball hats unless you're at a game please. If you're losing your hair, a woman will see it eventually anyway. And yes everyone, wear pants that if you pull them up, they stay there. The big sunglasses with gaudy knockoff embellishments can go away forever too.

And what do you get when you put all those looks together?

A hipster girl with way too much advice from a guy who has never worn any of this stuff and doesn't understand that these trends are meant to make other GIRLS jealous, not the boys. Trend has nothing to do with boys, it has to do with how much sexier you can look next to the other girls.

This guy posting what he'd like to see is really, really, banal. Seriously, try making a list for guys and watch all the defense mechanisms go up ("I'm a guy! Isn't it enough that I put my pants on and bring home the bacon?"). It's shameless that this could even be a list. Next time, have a girl write it. Because girls actually care about what other girls think. This is why even when we don't like somehting on another girl, we compliment. It doesn't matter what it looks like, just as long as we flattered.

Okay, here's my thoughts on these four looks:
      1. small sunglasses- not going to happen! bigger sunglasses frame my faces and the faces of almost every girl I know much better. Plus they look cute and give us added protection from that blazing sun!
      2. fitted buttondowns- cute, but I don't know. I prefer more of a current take on button downs. Maybe something with a ruffle down the front, oversized collar? Something "different".
      3. strappy sandals- on this, I am with you 100%. strappy sandals are hot, they are trendy and they look good with almost everything. They have the ability to add just that little bit of edge one might be looking for without being too over the top.
      4. cut off shorts- bad!! Cut off shorts are messy. they are trasy looking and they just say "i don't care". It doesn't matter how well you make your cut off and how little it frays. its not cute and this look should be avoided at all costs. Now, I am all for shorts in general. But keep them classy and keep them fitted (not tight!). Shorts can cross the lines of sexy-trashy very quick and its best to find a pair that works well on your body.

wow.. i would not wear any of this crap, my BF find me amazing in a plain or printed summer dress and some flat or flip flops without make up. These looks were soo ugly and the women modeling them looked liked aliens, ugly and fake as fuck!

The girl in the gladiators looks awesome! Very cool. That is the way gladiator heels look cool - with casual clothing. When you wear them with an evening dress, it is too much and looks like you are trying too hard. I have to disagree about the shades...I've tried wearing small sunglasses, and they don't block the sun - I find myself still squinting the whole time and I don't want to contribute to crow's feet! When I wear large sunglasses, they actually protect my eyes from the sun from all angles and protects the thin skin around the eyes, which I don't like to get my sunscreen too close to because it always runs into my eyes and burns. Plus I think the big ones really do look better! AND they are practical! And I have to say a BIG NO on the daisy dukes. No way, unless you are a stick-thin teenager or pre teen. No adult should wear them, especially a curvy one (by curvy I don't mean fat (necessarily), I just mean if you're not a stick thin boyish figure) because it makes you look too slutty/sexy. Maybe if you are a stick figure, because then it looks easy and effortless. Not fair, I know.

Personally, I wouldn't get caught in any of this garbage. I agree with snowee--how about showing some class? I absolutely despise the sweatshorts, esp. with things written across the butt--how tacky is that! Or, larger gals who wear skin-tight tops that don't cover their stomaches or shorts that are so short their cheeks hang out. That's just gross! Find clothes that fit and flatter, not make you look like a streetwalker. As for guys, I also agree that I don't want to see your underwear in pants so big four guys could wear them at the same time. Flip flops? Sorry, but I've always hated them for myself. If others want to wear them, please pair them with very casual clothes or at the beach, not with dresses and skirts.
