While there are hobbies that increase your chances of meeting eligible men, everyday activities, even ones you dread like a trip to the Laundromat, can also present opportunities to meet a new love interest. The trick to turning your chores into your own personal dating services is to be alert and open to possibilities, instead of just going through the motions-who knows, you might just start enjoying errands more too! Here are the top everyday places you might snag a date and tips on how to make it happen:
1. Your Commute
Chances are that if you take the train or bus to and from work, you'll start to notice others on your same schedule-provided you don't have your head buried in a newspaper or your iPhone the entire time! What's great about a routine like this is that your world becomes much smaller and more structured: Suddenly your trip resembles a college campus and the other commuters are like fellow students. (Remember how much easier it seemed to meet people in school?!) You may have never spoken to the professional cutie who shares your bus route, but you already have something in common, creating an opening for a conversation. Plus, insight into a person's routines can tell you a great deal about them. (Simultaneously, you should stay tuned to your stranger-awareness instincts.) Try making a comment about the book the person you're sitting next to has on his lap, or asking a question about routes or bus times.

2. Your Local Coffee Shop
How often do you order coffee while scanning your Smartphone instead of making eye contact with the cute barista taking your order or the surrounding coffee lovers? Look up, make eye contact, and exchange niceties before getting down to the business of ordering an extra-foam-half-caf-non-fat-latte. Or engage in small chat while outfitting your cup with lids and sleeves with a fellow patron. At the very least, friendly conversations ensure that you'll leave feeling warm and fuzzy as well as caffeinated.
3. The Airport or Airplane
Traveling requires a lot of waiting around. You wait to check in, to go through security, to get on the plane, to take off, to get your luggage (check out seriously stylish and functional sets here!), and the list goes on. Instead of cursing the lines and that fact that you're being shuffled around like sheep, look around at others in the flock. You're all sharing the same experience, which makes starting a conversation a breeze. Is the plane delayed on the runway? The guy or girl next to you is in the same boat so try sharing some piece of information related to the situation. It's amazing how bonding over inconvenience can break the ice and turn small chat into a deeper discussion. The fact that you're forced to be stationery for a length of time also helps your chances of making a connection.
4. The Laundromat
Being held hostage by a spin cycle is a drag. Unless, of course, there's a cutie in the middle of his own domestic duty. Offer up an extra fabric softener sheet (guys don't usually think to buy those but who doesn't appreciate soft fabrics?!) or a quarter. Is there a shortage of driers? Suggest that you share one (your clothes will already be clean, so the ick factor will be gone). Before you know it, you'll be chatting and sorting laundry together, making the chore so much more enjoyable. Bonus: Saying something like "See you next laundry day!" is a casual, subtle way to secure a next meeting that could turn into date outside the confines of washers and driers.

5. The Grocery Store
There's a reason that a certain Safeway in San Francisco is nicknamed "Dateway" and that one of our editors says that both sets of her grandparents met while picking out fresh produce. It's because the supermarket provides ample opportunities to break the ice by discussing surroundings. It also has the potential to be mildly social if you let it. Make a joke about a headline on one of the magazines in the checkout aisle, for instance. Or, at the very least, smile instead of glare if your cart collides with another. What worked for one the aforementioned grandparents? Discussing how to determine the ripeness of a melon. Who knows-maybe the spice aisle will help you meet someone who shares your love for exotic foods!
