Seriously...hand sawing is sexy! I found that out when watching Timbersports the other day.
Flipping through TV channels, I found something that looked unusual on ESPN - women were running fast, across 6 logs placed end-to-end in water!
Men were slicing through wood with different types of chainsaws, climbing trees and handling axes as if they were an extension of their hands.
I'd never seen anything like it.
Boom running?!
A couple of girls slipped off the logs, but they jumped out of the water and finished the race. It was funny and exciting at the same time. These women are athletic and they are serious about their sport.
Check out this video of the women running the boom, men racing to finish either hand-sawing or putting a chain-saw massacre on a tree.
In the tradition of "guys will compete over anything", here's some Wikipedia information about the origins of timbersports and log rolling.
"Logrolling, or birling, is a sport that originated in the lumberjack/log driver tradition of the northeastern United States and Canada, involving logs in a river (traditionally) or other body of water. After bringing their logs downriver, the lumberjacks would have a competition to see who could balance on a log the longest while it is still rolling in the river.
The contest involves two lumberjacks, each on one end of a log floating in the river. One or the other starts "walking" (or "rolling") the log, and the other is forced to keep up. The contest involves attempting to stay on the log while attempting to cause the competitor to lose their balance and splash into the water. It is also commonly known as log birling."
I'm always surprised when I see how much skill is involved. I would not be surprised if a fight broke out because someone got upset about being dunked in the water.
Surprisingly, I enjoyed watching (for a little while). I think that if I were at the event in person, it would be a fun day. Well, at least, it has funny moments and the crowd gets a little crazy.

- If it's funny, I'll watch it with you.
- If it requires skill and it's funny, I'll watch it with you without complaining (as much as I usually do).
