Men don't have to take birth control pills, and come to think of it, why do we shave our legs and pits when they just have to de-scruff their chins? There are so many scale tipping responsibilities we women have to endure, especially when it comes to sexual health. This weekend, the New York Times reported that an HPV vaccine for men may not be far behind the one (finally!) now available to girls, which helps prevent sexually-transmitted HPV that can lead to cervical cancer.
Apparently, some mothers of boys are up in arms. Sure, they don't want to vaccinate their children any more than they have to, but now it's time to step up to the plate. Let's remind men (and their mothers) everywhere that women can't get cervical cancer caused by HPV unless they are exposed to it by men! Isn't it only fair that they step up by taking this vaccine? Seems to me, this is a great first lesson toward teaching our young men a valuable lesson about responsibility (remember, unwanted pregnancies require a guy too!) and could go so far in cementing a lifelong respect and consideration for women.
I'm (semi) open to both sides of the argument, so let's talk.
