How Much Would You Pay Someone to Manage Your Online Dating Profile?

There's a reason we all complain about online dating even if we do it (and even though we all know someone who met their spouse through it!): It's a major hassle, and sometimes it feels like it's all for very little payoff. You've got to sift through dozens of generic, aggressively sexy, or insulting messages. You have to read profiles with long lists of "favorite" obscure French directors and indie bands, rate potential matches, and keep your own profile up-to-date. And half the time, this is all before you've even gotten to the stage of actually messaging another person. I'm tired just from talking about it.

Which is why it kind of makes sense that eHarmony is launching a personal matchmaking service for its online dating site. The service, which will cost $5,000, will entail speaking with a personal counselor, who will then sift through profiles and approach matches on your behalf.

There are some obvious pros to the service: You don't have to spend time looking at all those generic/sexist/plain-old awful profiles. You don't have to spend time thinking of what to write to a person you're interested in. And it combines the personal touch of a matchmaker with the millions of members of a dating site.

But then, there are some obvious cons: It costs $5,000. It cost $5,000. Oh, and it costs $5,000.

The new service came about based on a survey of eHarmony members with incomes of over $250,000. If that's you, then by all means, get a matchmaker to deal with all this crap for you. It sounds blissful. For the rest of us, I have a feeling it will be decidedly harder to find a lover, matchmaker or not, if we are homeless after paying $5,000 for a matchmaker instead of months of rent.

If the cost wasn't an issue, would you want to have such a service? How much would you be willing to pay for an online matchmaker?
