One Duke Girl's Huge, Massive Mistake: Writing a "F List"

Who writes a fake thesis about all of the many Duke University athletes she slept with? This girl does.
    - Faye Brennan, BettyConfidential.com

One of my best girlfriends from college forwarded me this story yesterday, with the subject line of her email as, "YOU MUST READ THIS."

I clicked the link in the email and continued to read about a former Duke University female student who managed to sleep with a large portion of the Duke lacrosse, baseball and tennis teams (13 dudes in all) - and then took the time to write about every single sexcapade in a fake thesis, or "F List." In a PowerPoint presentation. Girl obviously had a lot of time on her hands post-college.

Not only does the thesis contain photos of each athlete she bedded, but it goes into full detail about the "pros" and "cons" of their horizontal performances, and how they ranked in physical attractiveness, size, talent and the like. Basically, what you would share with your very close girlfriends after way too many cocktails, and then would regret in the morning. But at least you didn't write it down.

Read Why I Would Be Mr. Mom

First, we'll have a little round of applause for the girl for the following reasons: some of these dudes are pretty hot, the majority of her anecdotes are hilarious, and she's managed to have sex like Samantha Jones from Sex and the City, in a highly superficial manner that's completely devoid of emotion - we thought that was just make believe.

But, she must not have been thinking (at all) when SHE EMAILED THIS to her friends. Three friends to be exact. Who then proceeded to send it to just one more person, and so the chain began. The document can now be found on Jezebel and Deadspin, and in email inboxes everywhere.

Of course, the girl is mortified. She's gone into virtual hiding, deleting her social networking accounts, and telling Jezebel, "I regret it with all my heart. I would never intentionally hurt the people that are mentioned on that." Too late, sister. Duke University, the athletes, and the athletes' families are royally pissed off.

There's no doubt that she made a huge, gigantic mistake by actually even going near a computer with this stuff, but we can't help but think what would've happened if it was a guy who wrote this about the college girls he slept with. Lawsuits? Oh, you betcha. That boy would be paying for it for the rest of his life.

Will that happen to this girl? Only time will tell, but we have a feeling she won't be getting nearly enough action as she clearly used to for a very, very long time.

Tell us: What do you think about this "F List"?

Actually pixie, men don't do it. Little boys do. So you are incorrect on that one. How is that empowering to anyone? What a petty little world you live in.

What a bunch of 'double-standards'!! What B.S.!!! You women who are commending this (..........) for her "experiment" would be SCREAMING bloody murder if a male did this, yet, it's "ok" if a female does this. Men are SOOOOO gettin tired of ur selfish & all-around BADD behaviours!!

I knew a girl in college who did this . She saved hers on a computer disk though that she forgot in my car. Luckily none of the dudes on her list were guys I liked or had dated.

This girl has some crappy friends & stupid friends. She was wrong to use real names in what clearly is a work of fiction but her friends are the real culprits here. Let's see a picture of the three of them and ask them why they felt compelled to ruin their friend's reputation because she sent them a funny, yet inappropriate, work for fiction. Were her friends all B's or just that stupid?

The difference between men and women is that a man will never tell another man intimate details about a woman he's involved with. I've had affairs with roomates because the one I was dating couldn't keep her mouth shut about our escapades.

Those of you asking for a link...it's linked in the article, geniuses.

5th paragraph from the top. The words Jezebel and Deadspin are linked.

This isn't any different than "Cosmo's, 78 Sex positions, in 78 days".. Where a Cosmo.com female writer, takes on a challenge to try these 78 sex postions with her partner (in 78 days). This Cosmopolitan writer also talks about the prosVs.Cons, the positions themselves, how it felt, and how her partner was performing. How was her "power point" much different than what Cosmopolitan thinks is entertaining?? It's not. This girl sent it to the wrong "friends".. but isn't in the wrong herself. I agree that the names and pictures shouldn't have been used, but, she knows not to now and can't change whats already been done. If you ask me, this was really well written and... MEN could really learn from this. They can see how some of the things they say or think.. are actually quite ridiculous to us.. Take a tip from "Subject 12", who quickly became her best "F" ever.
This really isn't THAT bad. It's 2010, and "Sex Sells" people!

Used to be bedding a dozen guys for brief periods of time wasn't something "empowering" and there was as different name used for women who did things like that (especially in the South). .

If you send an email to three people, the odds of it remaining private are next to none.

Ask the people at The Smoking Gun.

She sounds like Ethel from Jacqueline Susann's 1960s book "The Love Machine". Ethel did alright afterward, though...

There should be no double standard here. Clearly, this woman sought to defame these men, or she was she was simply stupid. She was clever enough to develop criteria, do the research, and disseminate the results, so it appears she acted with malicious intent. She knew, or should have known, that releasing the information would make it widespread. In my view, she could face lawsuits for libel, defamation, etc. and, possibly, some jail time.

Really? "..we have a feeling she won't be getting nearly enough action as she clearly used to for a very, very long time." -Pretty cold.
I didn't read presentation, but if I were her, I'd capitalize on my 15mins. Redeem myself for errors of posting pictures and not changing names by writing a book of pointers; come back with a fattened bank account.
Our grandparents were smart enough to keep their mouths shut, if we can't, we gotta find something else to be proud of ($$$) :P

Someone said: " How is this any different than the book "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell"? (Other than he changed some names) "

How do you NOT see that as a HUGE difference????!!!!! Such a ridiculous statement. It makes all the difference in the world that her list included FULL NAMES and photos! Those guys are 100% identifiable! (there are completely uncensored copies floating around) Whether you have objections to Tucker Max's book or not, changing names protects the privacy/identity of the people involved, at least to some extent. That's not the case at all with the list this woman made. I suppose you could argue she didn't know it would be this widely disseminated, but it's hard to believe anyone could be that epically STUPID. Even if her intent wasn't malicious, she was at the very least incredibly irresponsible and reckless, and she should be held accountable for that.

It's mind boggling how many people think a nationally (probably internationally by now) disseminated list that includes full names and photos is somehow equal to frat boys bragging to each other or anecdotes published with the names changed.

I think the problem is haters who are trying to embarrass her. From my understanding this is what women discuss amongst themselves anyway. She just took it to another level. Shame on people who judge this girl.

"I would never intentionally hurt the people that are mentioned on that."

And in this day and age of social networks, email, and instant communication what did she think emailing that out would do?
    • esther  •  1 year 8 months ago
Hope she ditched the friends... nothing wrong with the list itself, it was making it public that was the problem and that was not her fault! Beyond choosing the wrong people to send it to.

She did nothing wrong. Guys do the same thing about girls ALL THE TIME.
