Shrek marriage: Would you have a theme wedding?

We've all heard about fairytale weddings, but this one definitely takes the cake. Hospice nurse Christine England, 40, married Keith Green, 44, in full Shrek and Princess Fiona costumes and make-up in front of 100 guests. The guests were also in costumes and fancy attire.

"The idea just came to me," says Christina. "I knew what we would go as because Keith looks just like Shrek." She tried to get her 18-year-old son to dress up as Donkey, another character from the film, but said "he wasn't having any of it." Her fiancé had no problem with the idea. "'It was a very strange experience to say the least, but a thoroughly enjoyable one. We love the films and my wife tells me I bear a resemblance to Shrek."

Christine's mother, Annette England, said: "It's not necessarily how you imagine seeing your daughter get married but it was great fun."

What we want to know: Wasn't there anyone who told this woman she was totally nuts? That perhaps she wouldn't want to spend her wedding day (and perhaps even her honeymoon) in full green makeup?
I've heard of Hawaiian weddings, butterfly themes, or even old Hollywood, but this is most likely the first and only couple to be married in a Shrek ceremony. Points for originality… we guess.

Would you ever have an outrageous theme wedding? What would you do if your friend told you she was having a Shrek wedding? Would you try and talk her out of it, or would you keep your mouth shut and pick out a costume? [Daily Mail]

I think it's really cool. I would probably not do it but for the brave of heart and the truly romantic, GO FO IT.

This couple is obviously meant for each other. The only sane one is the teenage son, and thats saying something.

Theme weddings are lots of fun and I'd consider having one some day, but Shrek?! Come on, that's not romantic, it's creepy. Face paint and weddings do not go together!

Shrek belongs at a kid's birthday party...not at a wedding.

This is a great idea! and I've always wanted my wedding to be in the oldest castle in London England, with the velvet drapery, candles used for the lighting and.. well I've visited the castle when I was living in London, and it was beautiful and so mystical.

The theme of course would be a Victorian Goth style, Girls with the long elegant flowing dresses, witch pumps, (shoes) the crops in their hair, veils, and the little lace umbrellas, and the guys in Old Victorian clothes such as the knee high cappers(pants), with stocking and the ruffled shirts.

And the great thing is, is that you can actually rent out the castle for weddings!! I actually averaged it out and if I wanted my wedding EXACTLY like this it would cost 35,000 euro!! which needless to say is A LOT cheaper than American dollars. :) so maybe one day this will come true *^^*

I saw a Star Wars themed wedding once. The men dressed in full Jedi robes and the bride and her bridesmaids dressed in female Jedi robes and the wedding dress looked like one of Padme's dresses. It was cool. But nobody was green.

To each his own. I am just wondering in 10 years if they will still be together?

I also notice how theme weddings are getting quite popular, specially to couples who have gone through the whole white wedding shebang before. I guess getting the nth opportunity to have another wedding is mentally stressful enough. So for many couples now, putting all the silly idea in somehow transforms the whole preparation process into a more economical, fun, and spontaneous event but also a memorable and unique experience for them and their guests as well. Not my thing though.

To each his or her own, but personally, I think this takes something away from the sanctity of the marriage ceremony. And I would personally be offended if someone told me I looked like Shrek!

it'd be fun, and something everyone would not forget...but a cartoon character wedding is not my cup of tea, but it is kind of cute. The kids would definitely get a kick out of it.

They're probably eccentric people in general. If they're happy then why not?

I think this looks like a lot of fun. Since it's your wedding, you want it to be your perfect day. It doesn't -have- to be the white dress and tux and roses and solemn procession. If I had the chance to do a themed wedding, I'd probably go with a midevil or rennaissance one. Such damned pretty clothes...

I would attend a Shrek wedding but I would never be the one getting married with that theme.

Hubby and I are renewing our vows at the Renaissance Faire here in Tennessee next weekend. We are wearing full nobility garb plus amazing jewelry that we ordered from www.sapphireandsage.com They do the best reproductions ever. I've also been an usher at a full Star Wars themed wedding. The groom was Boba Fett, the groomsmen were stormtroopers, it was absolutely classic. Then another wedding was an anime one, that one almost had me in tears. The bride was Princess Serena from Sailor Moon and the groom was Prince Darien. I just attended that one.
