Maybe it's because I'm pregnant and can't have it (nor do I want an aphrodisiac of any kind right now), I'm having the urge to write about sushi. Although this food traditionally takes many forms, what we most often think of as sushi involves fish or other seafood and seaweed with seasoned rice.
On its own, each of these three ingredients is steeped in aphrodisiac tradition, so imagine the potency when they come together in a beautifully presented package.
Beyond folklore, the ingredients of sushi offer many nutritional benefits that can help lead to a night of pure passion. Oily fish are loaded with mood-boosting Omega-3's. Many seafoods used in sushi are a good source of easily absorbable zinc, which is key for blood flow. (And without good blood flow, you'll be missing out on the most primal pleasure).
Seafood is also a great choice of lean protein. You'll need the sustained energy provided by quality protein for a long night of the bedroom tango. On top of all the benefits of slippery, sexy raw fish, seaweed is an excellent source of Vitamin E, also known as the "sex vitamin".

And let us not forget the endorphin inducing affects of sushi's traditional condiments. Both ginger and wasabi warm the body, make the tongue tingle, itching to be kissed, and makes the lips plump to a deliciously kissable softness. (For an exceptional sushi experience, try hunting down "true" wasabi. Wasabi is difficult to cultivate so what most Americans have come to know as wasabi is actually a combination of more common horseradish, mustard and green food coloring to make it seem, in appearance, like its namesake.)
Although I've never seen it documented, I've heard many reports from sushi lovers that the presentation, clean flavors and sultry texture combine to make one of the most potent aphrodisiacs simply in the experience of eating. I also think sushi can become an aphrodisiac in the experience of creation. One of my favorite recommendations for couples looking to create an aphrodisiac experience for two is to make sushi rolls.
Rolling sushi in tandem is a delicious exercise in teamwork. Imagine working the chopsticks to feed each other these potent morsels. If you really want to go the extra mile, there's the tradition of noytaimori. This (until recently obscure) Japanese tradition centers around the thought that the warmth of a woman's skin will hold sushi rice at a perfect temperature.
