My friend Jen Gotch met a guy in L.A., and, after one week, they decided to get married. Sound insane? Well, they've been happily married for almost four years! Here's the story of their whirlwind romance...
(And tell me: How long do you think you should know someone before getting married?)
Here's the story of Jen Gotch and her husband's whirlwind romance...
I live in Los Angeles, and a few years ago, I met a handsome Australian guy while he was visiting a friend here. We fell in love in a week and decided to get married.
Yup. One week. We're both pretty impulsive people. We almost went right to Vegas to get married, but decided that we'd want our parents to be there. Andrew had to go back to Australia for a teaching commitment, so we had a long-distance relationship for about a year. Then he moved here on February 14th. I made him move on Valentine's Day--totally cheesy. (What Surprised You When You Moved In Together?)
We got married in Vegas a couple of months later. Our first night, we stayed at Caesar's Palace, because I wanted him to get the full Vegas experience, and the second night at the Stardust. The place was pretty gross, but we didn't notice. How could we? We were floating on air. Then we were off on our honeymoon--a two-week road trip to Graceland.
That was 3 1/2 years ago. On our third anniversary, we went back to Vegas to renew our vows. We got upgraded to a suite at the Hard Rock, drank Champagne and ate chocolate-covered strawberries. We gambled for hours and didn't lose a dime (didn't win a dime, either, but we felt very lucky). Then we renewed our vows at the drive-thru wedding chapel!!!
Andrew didn't want to wake up that morning, so I just put my anniversary card in his hand. It stayed that way for a surprisingly long time.
We found this cool "G" (for our last name, Gotch) at a Vegas antique store and thought it was the perfect anniversary gift to us, from us.
Thank you, Jen! Isn't that a cute story? How long do you think you should date someone before tying the knot? My parents say two years, but my friend Nina met a guy in July and they're already engaged. What do you guys think?
