Valentine's Day: What's Your Favorite Way to Celebrate?

How do you celebrate Valentine's Day?How do you celebrate Valentine's Day?
Valentine's Day falls on a Tuesday this year -- guys, take note! -- and some people have been orchestrating for the perfect romantic night far in advance.

Not everyone has an elaborate Ultimate Proposal in the works, of course, but there are still plenty of planners out there. According to a survey of 3,000 people by OpenTable.com, 53 percent of respondents make their reservations at least a week in advance, and some a saving spots and more than one romantic restaurant.

"About half of diners surveyed anticipate booking a romantic evening on the 14th, while another 26 percent are choosing to celebrate on Saturday night, February 11," Caroline Potter, Chief Dining Officer for OpenTable.com, said in a statement. "Regardless of which night diners plan to celebrate, Valentine's Day promises to be a bustling day for romantic hot spots."

Seventy-five percent of those surveyed say wine or champagne makes them feel more romantic, while just 13 percent say that chocolates put them in a Valentine's state of mind. Of course, a celebrity crush would make the night perfect: men were split between wishing they were dining with Angelina Jolie (29 percent) or Zooey Deschanel (22 percent), while women swooned over George Clooney (44 percent) or Ryan Gosling (24 percent).

Even people without celebrity dates said that they're planning on dropping a bunch of money on dinner. More than half of those surveyed said that they counted on spending $100 to $200, and 10 percent said they'd spend even more than that.

We'd like to keep things a little more affordable. So, Shine readers, what's your favorite, affordable Valentine's Day gift or not-necessarily-expensive way to celebrate?

I like to buy my sweetheart a new outfit for Valentines Day. Last year I told her, "Your Valentines Day gift in on the kitchen counter". She came back and said, "All I see is a can of whip cream". So I told her to "go put it on....."

When I have a man in my life I prefer to stay home, cook, have dessert, then HAVE DESSERT. I've had more single Valentine Day's (and it's getting old) than coupled so we'll see what's on the menu this year.

There sure are a lot of bitter people apparently. Once again I thank god I'm married and not in the dating scene. I'll probably make a nice dinner for my wife and I then, well the skies the limit!

We always try to celebrate by doing something different; this year my hubby and I will probably leave the kiddos with someone and take a fun ride on our ATVs at Ocotillo Wells ... anything is good for us as long as we get to do it together ... then again it doesn't have to be Valentine's Day to celebrate our Love!

Never had a Valentine. So normally I would bake myself a cake or just go out. To me it's Singles Awareness day. I go out and mingle or hang with peeps, but after that it's the same thing. So this year, Xbox time.

I would be at the door when she arrived from work, hugging her close, while she thanks me for the roses I sent to her office. From there a bubble bath would be waiting for her to soak and relax, a prepurchased new dress, and shoes await her, we make our way out the door for prearranged private seating for dinner, followed by a some dancing, from there have a horse driven chariot waiting for a ride around the park areas, after arriving back to the car, we would go to the overlook to view the stars, and together make a wish, as the night progresses, a quiet drive back to the house, where we continue our dancing, in the house, then moving outdoors under the stars in the sky, as we fall in love again, we slowly, but gracefully move to the bathroom for a shared bubble bath, then to the bedroom for cuddling and romance. You shouldn't need preset day such as Valentine's Day to show your love to that special someone.
