Warm weather is good for so many things: sunlight past 5 P.M., wearing skirts without dying of frostbite, and the best thing in the world, iced coffee. But is it good for finding a relationship?

Not so much. Evidently fun in the sun does not bode well for new relationships. Facebook tracked its U.S. data from 2010 and 2011 to analyze changes in relationship statuses--either from a non-coupled status like "single" or "pathetic spinster" (kidding) to a coupled status like "in a relationship" or "engaged," or vice versa--to analyze net percentage changes in relationships at various times of year. Across all age groups, May through August had the lowest gain in relationships. Other stats:

The fifth most popular day to enter into a relationship is coming up soon: April Fools' Day! Clearly a day for joke relationships though, as April 2 has 11% more breakups than new relationships (the most extreme day in the opposite direction).

Of course, no one knows if we can really rely on this data, as people may not change their status at the actual time of breakup or hookup or even have a relationship status at all. I never indicate my relationship status, even in a relationship, because a) none of your business and b) I fear the dreaded broken heart icon. But the data does seem to reflect a pattern that doesn't surprise me. Summer is for having sexy singles times; winter is for tricking someone into spending all their time on the couch with you, eating Chinese takeout and finally getting into the Downton Abbey craze, because it's too cold to do anything else but sort of embarrassing to do that alone for four nights in a row. Not that I would know or anything.
Have your relationships tended to start at a certain time of year? Are you discouraged that we're entering a down time for new relationships? Are you drinking an iced coffee right now? I am!
