Natural Ways to Boost Your Metabolism

A fast metabolism is critical to burning fat and managing body weight. While some dieters use diet pills to speed up their metabolisms, the risks and side effects of these drugs make them risky. You can use some safe and natural methods to speed up your metabolism.

    Gain Muscle

The American Council on Exercise recommends resistance training for weight management. Think of your muscles as your body's engine. The bigger your engine, the more energy you can burn. Muscle, unlike fat, is active tissue that raises your metabolism just by being there. Adding a resistance training program is a sure method of naturally raising your metabolism. To make the most out of your time in the gym, train three days per week, training your entire body during each session. Use basic, compound exercises such as the leg press and shoulder press.

    Keep Hydrated

Inadequate water intake can slow your metabolism. Water is responsible for several metabolic processes, including digestion, waste management and temperature regulation. The Mayo Clinic recommends drinking 2 liters of water daily. You can fight hunger as well as raise your metabolism by drinking a glass before each meal. To provide an extra boost, make sure your water is ice cold. Your body burns extra calories heating it up to room temperature.

    Cardiovascular Exercise

Cardiovascular exercises such as walking, jogging and cycling are all effective ways to burn calories and keep your metabolism stoked. If you are just starting out, use a low-impact, low-intensity exercise such as brisk walking or moderate cycling. With more experience, you can graduate to jogging or intense cycling like spinning.

    Coffee

Whether you realize it or not, you might already be waking up to an effective natural metabolism booster. The caffeine naturally present in coffee raises metabolism and can improve fat oxidation. Drinking a cup before exercise can also improve alertness and help fight fatigue.

I used to have all three of these Vibram five fingers characteristics. Not when I was an adventure-seeking, rambunctious toddler, but as an older high school teenager. It was at this stage that my foolish rascal tendencies were at their Vibram fivefingers kso highest. Would I remain vibram five fingers sprint on track to becoming a doctor like my parents wanted? This moment would serve as the spark that set in motion a process of learning life lesson, molding me into the vibram five fingers classic person you're reading through your computer screen.

"...make sure your water is ice cold."...

Really? ARE THEY KIDDING? Make sure you drink ice-cold water?

Ice-water actually SLOWS the action of digestive juices and shocks the body. It's not healthy to drink a lot of ice-cold water. Moreover, billions of tea-drinker the world-over would confirm the benefits of NOT drinking a lot of freezing water. The health benefits suggest the reverse -- drinking steaming water is healthy.

Of course, your body's going to work harder if it's emersed in a freezing lake. Guess what -- you'd get sick.

How can Yahoo have let such a ridiculous piece of advice onto their site? Clearly, not a lot of care is going into this content. It's more about volume.

I also abstain from coffee, tea and alcohol. Diets aren't necessary and can get expensive. I think exercising and eating healthy leaving out fatening desserts, bread and salt. I'm going to do better at drinking water, it's hard because I only get thirsty at night. Get rid of that soda. Chocolate milk is soooo good and pomegranite juice - yum!

During my years of working in an office I would drink coffee all day long which wasn't good. Now I limit coffee to a few cups in the morning. I am the "Coffee Queen" of the world I think--I have a love and passion for good coffee. I think coffee with doughnuts might be my favorite food. I drink coffee black always and then chug milk along with it.

Vitamin B12 is great for your bodies metabolism and I have heard that 15-30 min a day of direct sunlight is good. If for nothing else than to produce vitamin D and bone health, but I have found that it leads to an improved metal status leading to a better and longer workout.

its ridiculous believing what is right and wrong... especially when it comes to knowing what is good or healthy for your body...

COFFEE as being good to drink is a myth. At times you hear it is bad. And then you hear it is good... I guess it only depends on the person.

TEA works best as a substitute. I think this article excluded the idea about the people who don't drink coffee because it is bad or against their religion. Tea should've been mentioned as an option besides coffee because they both carry caffeine.

it is scientifically proven coffein is actually damaging for your organism the fact it creates addiction says enough. Drinking decaff is even worse, processing coffee into decaff is done by various dangerous chemicals, taking those with decaff is even worse for your body.

Are you people serious or this post is sponsored by the coffee lobby? 0_o

From a dr and nutritionist, drinkw ater when you need it. Just drinking water to drink can make you sick. I personally hate the taste of coffee, I won't be trying that anytime soon. Also, when discussing things with my doctor. She said it is not possbile for a small woman to gain a lot of muscle. The only ones that do it are using steroids. Doing weight training is good because it does help you burn calories.
