Playing dress up with makeup and glamorous clothing is a common rite of passage for young girls. Pretending to be a princess or runway model is a familiar part of feminine culture. As they get older, some confident women develop their own sense of style, often abandoning their prepubescent ideas of beauty. For some, it becomes more important to be true to yourself and embrace your own natural beauty. So how can the low maintenance gal enhance her natural beauty without wearing a lot of makeup?
We've polled our ala nude beauties and asked them what makeup tips they would suggest for the natural beauty. We heard some simple tips that were astonishingly easy to use. Now it's your turn to embrace your natural beauty. Show off your natural look with these makeup and beauty tips.
Dump over 100 purses and chances are you will find 100 tubes of mascara. For the natural beauty, mascara may seem unavoidable but there are ways to avoid appearing as if spiders live on your face. Our nude beauties suggest clear mascara products that highlight lashes without covering them in black paint. Other suggestions were light brown or dark brown mascara worn strictly on the upper lashes. If your skimpy lashes bother you, a coat of mascara does not have to be noticeable. Just use it as an enhancement.
It seemed like a no brainer to suggest clear lip gloss but our natural makeup gurus tell us that it takes a little more. Beautiful, natural lips have to have a little love too. Use a lip scrub once a week to exfoliate away dead skin cells. Apply a lip balm every night before bed, especially during winter when the heater is running non-stop. Drink lots of water to keep lips plump looking. In the morning before applying a clear lip gloss or a touch of petroleum jelly, rub the skin on your lips for a few seconds to get the blood moving. Give your lips a little more definition by lining your lips with a nude lip liner.
Cheeks and Eyes
Petroleum jelly is the natural girl's best friend. Apply a touch of petroleum jelly to the cheekbones and the top of the eyelids. This natural shimmer makes skin look moist and dewy. If you have acne or suffer from blemish outbreaks you may want to skip this step. For your eyes, keep the brows looking neat by brushing them upwards and outwards after your morning skin care routine. Use an eyelash curler to train lashes to grow upwards and out of your eyes.
When you have acne, it is more challenging to go natural but you can do it. Shop around for a nude concealer that matches your skin perfectly. Apply the concealer to blemishes and bumps on your face. The concealer should blend in easily and look invisible, except for the coverage. Select a hypo-allergenic makeup that doesn't block your pores. Pressed powder will also do.
Whoops! We can't forget about protecting your skin! One good thing many makeup products do is protect your skin. However that's no excuse for keeping your skin buried. Apply a moisturizer that contains sunscreen every morning before you head out for the day. Protect your skin from pollutants and harmful sun rays.
So are you ready to strip down and show off the natural you? It is never too late to walk away from the ever changing world of makeup trends and enjoy a freer look. This spring or summer, you could try going natural on the weekends or on casual Fridays at work. Once you strip down you'll never want to cover up again!
