As host of This Week in MoM, I occasionally get invited to some pretty cool family events, like the Stella McCartney Kids launch last weekend. Hosted by celebrity moms Monet Mazur, Selma Blair and Jessica Capshaw, these moms shared some of their secrets for easing the back to school transition.
Monet Mazur got all of her shopping done online. Her son picked out his own backpack, shoes and tees, and she didn't have to drive him all over town. Jessica Capshaw, mom to a 4 year old and an 11 month old, raved about how "mindful and organic" Stella McCartney's kids line is, and how basics from Crewcuts, Gap and Old Navy are her family's staples. Selma Blair, mom to a 7 week old, wasn't as much in the back to school mindset, but rather adjusting to new motherhood. Bouncing her baby on her hip and juggling photo ops and interviews, she confided in me that her other mom friends are really helping her get through her transition into motherhood, even if that means they just come over for an hour so that she can take a shower. Sound familiar, moms?
One of my favorites parts of the party was the crafts table hosted by upcycler, Danny Seo, where kiddos turned wooden birdhouses from Michael's into a whimsical art pieces just by using vintage children's books and some Mod Podge. Adorable, and super easy to make!

So after the celebrity mingling, vegan lunch, face painting, and silent charity auction, I was ready to do a little shopping. I bought this adorable little hipster tee for my son. Which he will probably refuse to wear because it does not have Spiderman on it, but a fashionable mom can always hold out hope…
