Sarah Michelle Gellar urges us to read!

Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar may be best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but today her favorite role is playing mom to her almost 2-year-old daughter Charlotte. Reading together is a favorite activity at their house, so Sarah teamed up with"The Nestlé Share the Joy of Reading Program" to raise awareness about the importance of children's literacy. I read to my children all the time. now my son is 20 and daughter 17. I'm a children author of Concord,Ca. Now I read a day cares and where ever I'm invited locally. Very fun.

I'm a school custodian now for 23 years and I would test my stories in the class's to see if kids liked first. I write for the age's of five on up. For those interested here's my site below

In our house we love to read anything by Mo Willems, check out his Elephant and Piggie books, my favorite is Are You Ready To Play Outside. Also try Chicken Cheeks, my 5 year old thinks it's hilarious. My 3 month old enjoys the Sandra Boynton board books. Bob Shea books are funny too. And if you happen to have a boy in 1st or 2nd grade, try The Truth About Poop, it's gross but little boys enjoy gross things.

I've read books since I was little. I think reading is the greatest thing you can give to a child. I always give books as gifts to everyone for all occasions. The book I love and my nieces love for me to read to them is a Golden Book called The Monster At The End Of This Book. They never get tired of me reading it to them. :)

forget your stupid ipads and electronic crap, real reading is a tactile activity best experienced with a printed book.

My wife and I love , You Can't Make Me Go To School by Jodie Keeling from Tate Publishing. It is about getting out the door every morning for school and the crazy things that happen. It is really fun to read with the kids.

I love love love Nancy Tillmen's On Then Night You Were Born. It is totally affirming of a child's value and the illustrations are amazing and fun!

    Go the f*** to sleep.

I kid, I kid. I <3 Sarah Michelle Gellar, grew up watching her and she was my #1 crush.

Comic Books, Fantasy Books, those are my favorite reads. Great gateway for imagination with fantasy books. I recommend the Drizzt books for teens, and Xanth Novels for people who like fantasy with a bit of wacky humor.

So I guess you haters would rather have your psuedo-heroine Bristol Palin instead, yeah? There's a real role model of the type of girl you don't want to be.

omg!! Thank God for Sarah and the suggestion that parents read to their children. This is not only brilliant, it is something never ever suggested in the history of mankind. I just so happy it took getting paid by Nestle for her to propose such a monumental idea. What next? Parents should play with their children?

We went out and kissed back in 1997 when she was about to be famous. She was so funny and girlie about everything. We lost contact and I completely fell for her, it was very sad but as she was such nice person it was very inspiring.

If you like her on screen wait to meet her as a person, she may get in to your nerves and feel shallow but she is just better in small groups. She is a great girl.

    Duke,
Aren't you a little darling???? What's up hater? Obviously this has to be brought to the forefront again and again and again, because little haters like you seem to forget that the good old USA is 50th in the world in education. So maybe you want to get down off you high F&^*ing horse and teach a kid how to read.

Well done Sarah, we miss you.

Huge fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar-Prinze! She is absolutely right about us parents continuing our encouragement of reading after school and during summer time. My sons favorite books are, Good Night Moon, Mad Mad Mad, Bugs, Animals, and lots more. They don't have just one or two favorites...they have a lot of favorite books. Thank you for sharing this with all of us!

"Advice TO young moms" is pretty self-explanatory. Perhaps Yahoo! thought that the younger moms were the ones who could most use this type of advice.

At any rate, I can't fathom why anyone would want to put down an effort to raise awareness about the importance of early reading. Cranky much?

To the poster who asked why she would wait until the child is four--I'm pretty sure she said she had read to her child ever since she was "born," not "four." And that's an excellent time to start.

Listen to experienced moms and dads, not young moms who don't know, especially an ex-vampire.

I love how the headline reads "Buffy star gives advice to young moms." She's 34. In what universe is that "young" for a mom?

To the people attacking Sarah--the whole point was her sharing what she thinks is important. Not all parents read to their kids often, I am sadly one of them and I wish I had started reading with my child at an earlier age.
Lighten up and at least she is doing something that isn't all about her. And I will PROUDLY say I am a big SMG fan, along with being a Buffy fan.

Man, people just whine anymore for the most ignorant reasons.
