The economy will always have ups and downs. But it can be hard to swallow when things are cut close to home. Do you think school budgets are affecting education for your child? I asked moms all over the United States about their experiences.
"They did when my kids were in school and probably worse now. I hated that they cut out the arts. A well-rounded child needs art and music as well as the 3 R's." - Tania, Plantation, Fla.
"Absolutely. Pennsylvania's budget crisis has made national headlines. Governor Corbett initially wanted to cut kindergarten down to half day classes, rather than full days. After much protest by parents, educators and other citizens, the Governor announced that full day Kindergarten would remain." - Amanda, Philadelphia, Pa.
"I think school budgets are affecting children in a negative way. Where did learning life skills go, such as learning how to sew and cook like when I was in school? Music is being taken away, art is taken away..." - Stephanie, Milford, Maine
"Yes. The educational budget is now based on testing in so many ways that my child spends more time learning test taking skills than he does learning practical use of academic skills." - Kathy, Hamlet, Ind.
"As the parent of a special needs child, I absolutely believe that school budgets are affecting my son's education. The larger class sizes, lack of resources and inability of the school to afford extra aides affects him every day." - Tracy, Petal, Miss.
