    Valentine's Day Paper Flowers

Valentine's Day is coming up, so I had gift-wrapping expert Wanda Wen show me a great craft for the kids to make as gifts: a paper flower. It's simpler than it looks.

Wanda's the author of "The Art of Gift Wrapping" and the owner of a paper store called Soolip in West Hollywood, CA. The flowers she helped me make are beautiful - they could work as an activity for either kids or moms! I'm thinking of using one as a gift-topper for a baby shower gift.

To make Wanda's flowers, you'll need square-cut paper, double-stick tape, some tissue paper and a twig or pipe cleaner for a stem. That's it! You can even get creative with the paper: brown paper bags can work great, and the kids can even decorate their own paper w/ paints -- potato printing, perhaps?

If you want to get more creative ideas from Wanda, you can check out her blog at http://soolip.blogspot.com

Wish she would have given measurements...for those who tried it what sizes were your petals and what about the tissue paper? I tried 6x6 for the petals but find I need 6 to make the flower...

Any size as long as they're the same size and square. I made mine out of school paper i had to cut square. I glued them w/ hot glue gun since i had no double stick tape...nice for Easter

I love this! I tried making this once for my friend's birthday party, unfortunately I got desperate and used different sizes of paper to connect it, i learned two things, buy double stick tape, (one sided tape is hard for me.) and that I need to practice more!

Does anyone know if you have to use gift wrap? I was wondering about using scrapbook paper for them as I already have a ton of it.

You can use any type of paper but it might be a little harder with scrapbook paper because of its thickness.

I have some that's not as thick as others so I might try it with that. The problem is that its really hard for me to find wrapping paper with the grid-lines one the back anymore and I don't think that would be very pretty, lol. Thanks for the help, Evelyn!

You can use any type of paper. Heavier paper just makes it heavier. There are no special small folds so it will still work. As far as what's on the back of a paper you wont see it cuz the back is folded to the inside of the flower. I'm gonna try fabric squares just to see since I've already tried all sorts of paper products. Have fun.

origami paper would work awesome as it is already perfectly square

I was thinking old wrapping paper would work great for the interesting colors. A diagonal fold will get you to square

Trust me, she will. They won't shrivel up and die like real ones. And no alergy worries. Great idea.

She will, most women like handmade gifts like this. It's the thought and the time put in that counts, she'll love it!
