My mom always said not to rest your purse on the floor if you didn't want to lose money. I can't even leave my purse on the floor now as an adult because it was so ingrained in me! Turns out this is good advice if you want to avoid theft LOL.

I actually learned more by doing the opposite of what my parents did or told me to do than from anything actual I saw them doing. Good role models were hard to come by when I was a kid.

I find it disturbing that every single point of advice here is focused on physical appearance, not general health.

I'm 45 years old. I look to be ten years less than that....at least. And, no I am not bragging, it's just that the genes are there, and so many people tell me how young I look. But, at the same time, I smoked for 25 years, and it didn't make me look at all older. (I've since quit, btw so no need for comments from the peanut gallery) I just thought I'd comment on the smoking/age thing because it is just something that never affected me. What did affect me when I quit? I gained close to 50#, and I am probably the UN-healthiest I've been in my entire life. And I eat no more or less than I ever did. Go figure......

My mom never really cared about that kind of stuff. She taught me to be a kind and compassionate woman by allowing me to be myself (even with all my faults). She always believed in me and when she got mad at me for experiencing life, I knew it was with her good intention of not having to see me go through what she went through when she was my age. In the beginning I wasn't very appreciative of her (teenage rebellion lol), but now that I'm much older I respect her more than anyone. She is definitely someone I can look up to even when she makes mistakes. She always told me that baby's pick their mothers before they are born. Well I'm sure as heck glad I picked her to be mine. Happy Mother's Day, Mama! :)

Now if only I had a similar relationship with my dad.. :/

first rule of thumb for the ladies reading this article, try not to look like your mother. That is how men see you in twenty or thirty years.

"Your body temperature increases slightly when you sleep, which can enhance absorption of whatever's on the surface," --except for the part where your body temperature DROPS when you sleep, so this person clearly has no idea what they're talking about.

I think everyone wanted the perfect family. You know - white picket fences, brownies baking in the oven - the fantasy. My life was hell when I was young. Slowly learning not to blame and just try not to make the same mistakes has taken a lifetime. Called my mom today and told her that I love her and wished her a happy mothers day.

She was wrong about one thing. You won't grow hair on your palms.

My Mom always said: "I don't care what you do as long as you marry a white girl." Sage advise for all white people.

Geez, I'm breaking all of the rules. I'm going to be terribly ugly when I get older. :(

My mom had 3 girls and 1 boy, she always told us never let anyone stand you up, say what you mean and mean what you say, and to us girls she would say "never let anyone punk you out, because I'm not raising no punk. Those words taught me to defend myself and to stand up for what is right".Thank you mama.
