When my kids' dad left me caring for two very young children, you stepped up to give me a hand. Rather than allowing me to stay in my own home and struggle at a 9 to 5 job, barely making ends meet, you talked me into moving in with you. Having a place to stay where I did not have to worry about outrageous bills, I was finally able to sit back and take out time to go to college, where I should have been.
I could not have asked for a better situation or help. I was able to work, go to college and increase the money I could make for my family. You had the difficult end of it, though. Since you are retired, you took time out of your life, when you should be relaxing and enjoying your day, to help raise my children.
I don't know of many parents who would take five days out of their schedule to take care of two children for 16 hours a day while their mother worked and went to school, especially without being paid to do so.
Not only did you take care of my two children, you signed them up for sports, and ensured that they got to every practice and every game. You ensured that even though I was busy building them a future, that they did not miss out on the present, and being a kid.
I know I could never pay you back for all of the hours of grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, or fighting with two stubborn children over bed time, or dealing with two tearful children as mommy had to leave early in the morning for class, when they knew I should have been there.
If it was not for you dad, I would not be financially independent. I hope that some day I will be able to pay you back, both financially and emotionally. Thank you, for helping me give me and my children a future.
