If you don't know who "K-Stew" and "R-Patz" are, you have been living underground for the last several weeks. These two are the stars of the Twilight movies. They have been involved in a real life romance since meeting on set during the first film. Just a few weeks ago, Kristen Stewart was outed for cheating on Robert Pattinson with the director of the new film she was acting in. There has been incredible outrage over this, and it seems like people are actually mourning their split. It looks like this is becoming more and more common as real people become "attached" to couples they adore. This is not the first time it has happened, and it will not be the last. These are some reasons people become obsessed with celebrity couples and their relationships, especially the younger generations.
These people become part of their lives
When you are a teen growing up, your life revolves around younger celebrities. You idolize them and sometimes even dream of being in their inner circle. When they are in relationships, you judge the situations you see them in. This happened a lot with Justin Bieber and his girlfriend, Selena Gomez. Tween and teen girls all over the world were spewing hate for Gomez, simply because she was dating Bieber. Back when I was a teenager, Justin Timberlake was the one all the girls wanted. Britney Spears was public enemy number one in my eyes. It seems foolish to me as an adult now, but back then it was like these people were in my life and not just celebrities.
They become role models
Teenage girls always favor celebrity females around their age, and a little bit older. Many girls are obsessed with Taylor Swift, and so far she seems to be setting a pretty decent example for them. The Twilight fans feel let down by Stewart because of what she did to Pattinson. There have been many fan rants and raves about the situation posted on Youtube for the world to see. In fact, some of them went so far as to cry. Stewart let these girls down and is sending the message that it is okay to do what you want in Hollywood. This is a really crazy situation she set into motion, and it is only getting more chaotic by the day.
Girls are looking for an ideal relationship pattern to follow
Growing up I didn't have a relationship example that was functional in any sense of the word. I threw myself into watching celebrities and how they dealt with the people they were dating. In fact, the examples they set were not always great, especially Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. Stewart and Pattinson were "the" couple in Hollywood and now it is over. Young girls all over are crushed and may now have this skewed image of what happens in love.
As I age, I realize just how foolish the idolization of Hollywood couples is for young girls. Stewart certainly has upset a lot of fans and also ruined the idea of love for a lot of Twilight fans. This will blow over eventually, but this is one relationship that will leave an impact on many people across the world.
