- I want you to remember back to your stay in the hospital right after you gave birth. You were tired, but happy, and ready to show off your beautiful bundle of joy to the world -- well, your friends and family anyway. You took pictures, cuddled your little one, and sent out e-mails, texts, and maybe even a Facebook post declaring your love for your new addition to your family.
Kourtney Kardashian and Bethenny Frankel: two famous moms who share their children with the world.

Now, I'd like you to imagine that those first photos you snapped of your baby had to be so closely guarded that you couldn't even send them to your own mother for fear that they would be leaked to the press. For some famous parents, that's the reality of starting a family in the spotlight. But it's not because they want to shield their children from the media. For many, it's because they spent months leading up to the birth brokering deals to see who would pay the most money to publish the first images of the happy family.

In the run-up to Mother's Day, we have been predictably inundated with stories of women who give up everything to make things easier for their children. There's Clueless actor Alicia Silverstone, who chews her child's food and spits it into his mouth, as though he's a baby bird. Then there was the woman who was on the cover of Time, shown breast-feeding a child who looks old enough to chew barbequed ribs. Most of the rest of the stories are less provocative, extolling women who gave up such selfish pursuits as a career and adult personal life to cater to her children.
Me, I called my mother on Mother's Day and thanked her for not being quite so easy on me. Or more to the point, I thanked her for doing her job as a parent.

Yes, there are men in the movie What to Expect When You're Expecting. And they have opinions! Read on for their nuggets about dads, dating, delivery, and more.

Matthew Morrison
On labor and delivery: "My dad is a midwife, so I grew up hearing all these stories. I was so scared of sex! He'd show me every possible venereal disease and say, 'I delivered a 14-year-old's baby today.' When I was a senior in high school, I helped him deliver two babies. In fact, I want my dad to deliver my baby--what a great story that would be for my child to tell, that his grandfather brought him into this world. Though obviously, my wife would have to be okay with it!"

I was surprised because as a kid who grew up in the late '70s and early '80s, I flew many times by myself or with my sister to go visit my grandmother.7 tips for when your kids are traveling alone
I was always watched over like a hawk by the flight attendants. Sometimes annoyingly so. I couldn't get away with anything. I can't imagine that this has changed much over the years. The airlines are responsible for the kids and indeed all of the passengers flying on their planes.

I spoke with Jennifer*, an 18-year veteran flight attendant for a major airline, who read the article and then shared it with several of her colleagues. She said: "First there are many flaws in that story. A child that young is NEVER allowed to fly alone under any circumstances. What's up with the provocative cover, Time? I mean aside from the desperation for people to buy your magazine? The coverline reads, "Are You Mom Enough?" and the associated article by Kate Pickert talks about the Attachment Parenting trend brought to us in recent years by Dr. Sears.
Attachment Parenting, or AP, is the method of parenting that involves completely devoting yourself to your children. It includes co-sleeping, feeding on demand, extended breastfeeding, baby wearing, and basically doing anything and everything to keep your baby from crying.

Although it's always fun to see which baby names the celebs are choosing, the yearly release of the topThe Top Baby Names of 2011
10 boy and girl names from Social Security is the ultimate authority on baby naming, because it shows what parents are actually naming their kids. So which names topped the charts in 2011?
For boys, Jacob still reigns supreme-and has since 1999, when it hit the number one spot. Sure, the Twilight craze may have contributed to its enduring popularity, but it's also a strong, easy name for boys, with Jake as a cute nickname option. Stay tuned for 2012, though: the name Mason may usurp Jacob next year for the top spot, probably thanks to Kourtney Kardashian, who chose it for her son. Mason, which ranked 12 th in 2010, zoomed onto the top 10 list in 2011, and is currently the second most popular boy name.
Another boy name on the upswing: the slightly formal but c

When I first separated, holidays were unbearable. Any holiday without my son practically broke my heart, and seeing intact families celebrating Valentine's Day, Halloween, even President's Day seemed weighted and sad, even though I knew my son was having a blast with his dad. I felt like a part of my body was missing. Cue the melodrama.
Cut to now--my first Mother's Day without my son. It was his dad's weekend, and we try to be respectful of our set times with our son. He's let me have K on past Mother's Days but I'm taking K on vacation soon and using some of his dad's days, so it all works out. After divorce, holidays become more arbitrary, simply because they have to. I try

I am aware of the reasons suggested as to why older toddlers should not use sippy cups, and it's not that he does not know how or will not use a regular cup. In my parenting experience, it is just easier. However, if you make the same choice I did you may meet with some critical responses. Here's a little ammo for your response.
It doesn't have to be all or nothing.
Both of my toddlers do use a regular cup at times. I often give them lid free cups at meals where they are already sitting at a table and being closely supervised being that we eat as a family. However, when they are running around playing I prefer the sippy cup because they aren't sitting still. They are doing what toddlers do-playing-and play can lead to spills. They also get a sippy cup with water by their bedside at night, that way when they wake thirsty I don't get woke up and they don't get water all over their front.

There is a growing trend of people communicating with each other more with technology than in a real life situation. Technology may allow families to share more information than ever before, but how much is too much? Learn to see the signs that your child needs to unplug.
Make one room technology free. You can use this as a test, or do it on a regular basis. If you're going to use it as a test, simply observe how much your family avoids that room as compared to how often they visited it before you made the no technology rule. If that's the case and you want to make it a permanent rule, be sure to use a room that can't be avoided, like the room that you take your meals in or frequently spend family time in.
Limit the amount of time spent using communication devices. As a child, I wasn't even allowed to answer the phone. Today, I see children who won't even look at the
