"I had it under a bunch of pillows, like, right over here," Hallie told reporters, showing her laptop. The family's home is for sale, and Hallie forgot to turn off the camera when they all left during an open house. When they returned home, she checked the video and was alarmed to see a man entering her room and rifling through her belongings. Then the thief shoved a bracelet, a necklace, and some loose cash into his pockets.

"She came down the stairs screaming: 'Somebody ripped us off!'" said her dad, Chris Pritchard. "We looked at the video… It was really shocking."

The police identified the man as Douglas John Calandrella, a 46-year-old real estate agent who was already on probation for first-degree burglary. According to reports, Calandrella has a history of stealing from open houses and selling the goods on eBay.

This real-life Nancy Drew is proud of her exploits. The young Pritchard admits, "It doesn't happen much that a 12-year-old catches a guy stealing." Calandrella is now behind bars awaiting trial.
