Better Together: 4 Reasons Why I'm Glad My Kids Share a Room

Why I'm glad my kids share a roomWhen I found out I was pregnant for the fourth time, it became a joke of sorts between my husband and I that we had everything that we needed, except for a bigger car and larger house.

You know, just the minor things in life.

We quickly rectified the automotive situation by taking the plunge and purchasing a minivan. Honestly, I never thought I'd be the kind of gal to actually admit to enjoying a minivan, but I love it and wouldn't trade it for the sexy sports cars in the world.

But the house thing, well, that's proved to be a bit trickier. While we are currently house hunting, finding the perfect new places takes a lot of time, research (and oh, money too). Hopefully, within the year we'll have a new place, but for now we're making due with the space we currently have.

Tight quarters has translated into a few things, including my kids sharing bedrooms. My big girls share our 3rd floor loft space, and my little boys share a room on the second floor. And even though my oldest daughter wishes she had her own room, I really love my kids sharing bedrooms.

Here are 4 ways my kids sharing a room makes life easier for all of us:

1. Less space to clean up and organize
With only one room for two kids, at the end of the day we only need to tidy a small space. Typically, it's putting away some clothes, and stacking the books back in the bookshelf. If they each had their own room, I'm guessing I'd be doing this twice as much.

2. Sweet moments secretly shared
After I tuck the boys into their respective beds, I go downstairs and turn on the monitor. It's here where I listen in and relish their sweet conversations, "good night baby Paul", "hi-yo!".

3. A speedy bedtime routine
At 7:30 pm we go upstairs and start the bedtime process. Jammies put on, diapers changed, and a bedtime story read. With everything conveniently located in one room, everything flows fairly quickly.

4. Life lessons learned
The thing I love most about my boys sharing a space is that they're learning how to share their stuff with each other. Hopefully they're creating a strong brotherly bond that will last a lifetime.
