Election 2008: Get ready to vote!

Photo Credit: Getty ImagesPhoto Credit: Getty ImagesElection Day is Tuesday, November 4th. Are you ready to vote?

At Shine, we've been talking about the many dramatic, inspiring, humorous and flat-out entertaining campaign efforts.

But most importantly, we want to make sure that your voices are heard. And that every single vote counts.

Scroll through our checklist to ensure that you're in prime voting form before you head to the polls on Tuesday.

    • Do you know where your polling place is located? On Election Day, there is nothing worse than going to a polling place and finding out you can't vote because you're at the wrong location. Before you head out the door to vote, confirm your polling place. You can use Yahoo's nifty polling place tool to find out if you're headed in the right direction.
    • Do you have your identification card/driver's license with you? If you're a first-time voter, you'll definitely be asked to show some identification at the polls. But just to be safe, everyone should bring a form of ID.
    • Can you carpool or walk to your polling place? It's a big day and you want to get to your polling place in a hurry. But you can still be eco-friendly in the process. Go vote with a friend or family member and spare the air.

I voted by absentee ballot in '04--it was such a breeze! After being in line FOREVER in '00 (I lived in Manhattan at the time), I swore I would NEVER do it again. Unfortunately, I had a lot going on in this month, and forgot to do it, so I'll be stuck in line again tommorrow! Still, it's very important, so when I'm standing in line trying to keep my 2 year old quiet tommorrow, I'll think of the women that fought to give me this right, and think about the people in other countries that risk their lives to cast a ballot, and the countries that only transfer power in coups, and will feel grateful.

I voted already because I have to work 7am to 7Pm tomorrow and didn't want to try to rush after work and cut it too close.

      Obama's the change we need...Obama/Biden08!

impatientmom - I would warn you NOT to watch TV commercials (or news coverage, really) tonight to aide in making your choice. Don't read whatever crazy pamphlets end up stuck in your door overnight. Get online and read each candidate's plans and their party platform.

Making an *informed* decision will make you even more proud about participating in this historic day.

And, stepping off my government teacher / unbiased soapbox ... please, vote Obama/Biden. :)

I can't WAIT to vote!! Even if I have to stand in line for 7 hours. Whatever. It's worth it if it comes down to those last few votes that decide the fate of the country. I'M not going to be responsible for McCain winning this election.

      BARACK THE VOTE!

      OBAMA/BIDEN '08!!!!!!!

I mailed in my ballot last week and there was no other choice for me. Even if i were a registered republican I would've broke party ties this eleection cycle because McCain/Palin are NOT what we need right now.

      OBAMA/BIDEN 08!!!!!!!

VOTE McCAIN!! I'm hoping for the biggest upset of the century. Change is not a destination and hope is not a strategy. - A vote for Obama is a vote for socialism.
