The first official royal baby portrait is here, taken not by the likes of Lord Snowdon or Sir Cecil Beaton, but new grandfather Michael Middleton himself. The proud pop captured the new family on the lawn of the Middleton's Berkshire Estate with his "point and shoot," a humble family moment that has already been deemed "a right royal mess" by the Guardian's picture editor. Flanked by the Middleton's retriever, Tilly, to the family's left and a slobbery Lupo to the right, George is fast asleep in the arms of his mother-a sure relief to Prince William, who recently admitted he was glad George "wasn't screaming his head off" when he met the world.

Kate wears a fuchsia dress by Seraphine-the same exact make that she modeled (in a different print) the day she was whisked away to Berkshire to rest after George's birth. The dress is already backordered by four weeks. And, according to the site, it features a "deep v-neckline that pulls aside for breastfeeding," signaling that the Duchess is neither too "posh to push" nor too dainty to breastfeed.

It's worth noting that there's a bit of a royal microfilm match-off in the works, as previously unseen photographs of young Queen Elizabeth were released just just two days earlier, offering an eye into her life as a two-year old, as she was pushed across royal lawns in a wicker baby carriage and atop her father's Shelton pony. We patiently await the Guardian picture editor's critiques.
