TMZ was the first to break the news - with some additional commentary. "It's definitely worth noting ... Halle is 46, and Olivier is 47." Okay, uh, noted? Women are having children in their forties these days, TMZ. Then, People reached out to Berry's rep for confirmation, who offered a generic, "I can confirm that Halle and Olivier are expecting a child." Then, of course, came the "sources close to the couple," who also must be interviewed in cases like this when a simple confirmation just won't satisfy the public's thirst for information.

"Halle is feeling great. It's a very exciting time," the source told People. We're glad to hear that she's feeling well and definitely agree that having a baby is a happy occasion. The source then went on to add, "This happened naturally - everyone is really happy." Andddd that's where we have to throw a flag on the field.
Yes, it's true that most women don't have children at the age of 46, and it is statistically harder to conceive at that age. Still, does it matter how Berry got pregnant? When a woman over the age of 40 announces she's having a child, why does everyone stop and wonder whether or not the baby was conceived naturally? The way People's source made sure to mention that "this happened naturally" is a telling remark on how society tacitly views this method as being preferable to IVF.

It really doesn't matter how Berry and Martinez conceived their child; nor should it be public knowledge unless the actress herself wants to discuss it. What matters is that two parents who wanted a child have been blessed with one, and we wish them nothing but happiness - and some privacy.
