Happy Birthday, Prince George! Here Are 5 Milestones He Hit During His First Year

By: Ivy Jacobson for TheBump.com

Doesn't it seem crazy that a year ago, the world was waiting and w-a-i-t-i-n-g for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to emerge from St. Mary's Hospital's Lindo Wing in London and let the world see a peek of Britain's newest heir to the throne (and also see what Kate's postbirth dress choice was)?

We went on to eventually find out that Kate Middleton and Prince William's baby boy was named George Alexander Louis, and he weighed in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces. Ever since then, it's been sweet, cute and cuddly Prince George mania. He's quite accomplished for a one-year-old (who else can sell out rompers that quickly and receive a marriage proposal?), so we rounded up five baby milestones he's hit since July 22, 2013.

1. Smiling
We saw plenty of pictures from George's first Royal Tour in New Zealand and Australia, but the ones we fell in love with were of George flashing his megawatt smile during his first public playdate in April.

2. Sitting Unsupported
And speaking of that playdate, George totally ruled the playpen and sat up with no help needed from his watchful parents. "[George] sort of took control, went into the middle of the circle, hunted out the biggest toy, propped himself up, and he owned the place basically," a parent told E!.

3. Reaching, Grasping and Holding
When George took his first trip to Sydney's Taronga Zoo, he was all hands as he curiously grasped the glass cage that held a bilby named after him while his parents held him up. It was also at the zoo where Kate had to pull this classic and gross mom move that assured us George is like every other baby.

4. Traveling
George got some serious stamps on his passport, flying to Scotland, Australia and New Zealand, and from what we know, all went well, considering his personality. "He's a little bit of a rascal," William told ABC News. "He's a little fighter. He wriggles around quite a lot. And he doesn't want to go to sleep that much, which is a little bit of a problem."

5. Walking
In celebration of George's first birthday, Kate and William released family shots taken at the Sensational Butterflies exhibit at London's Natural History Museum of George walking and looking at butterflies. The couple also released a lovely statement thanking everyone for the birthday wishes:

"We would like to take this opportunity on George's first birthday to thank everyone over the last year, wherever we have met them, both at home and overseas, for their warm and generous good wishes to George and our family."

Now there's just one question I have for them: Will George's first birthday smash cake be vanilla or chocolate?
