It's Cow Appreciation Day on July 12 th . This bovine celebration honors those faithful creatures that provide us with the stuff of delicious and nutritious dairy products.

Do you love butter, cheese, cream, milk and other dairy delights? How about a great big scoop of ice cream on a hot summer afternoon?

"Don't have a cow, man," says Bart Simpson on FOX TV's "The Simpsons."

Sassy and sarcastic Bart Simpson may not be calling consumers to a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. He's probably just mouthing off again.

Why not visit a local dairy farm or petting zoo to celebrate Cow Appreciation Day?

Take the bull by the horns! Try milking a cow. Just don't go stomping into the dairy barn like a bull in a china shop.


Give ole Bessie a stroke or two behind the ears.

And don't forget to stop for a double dip of your favorite ice cream on the way home. Choose the frozen dairy treat flavor you like best, the one that hits the bull's eye for your own taste buds.

After all, it's Cow Appreciation Day, so it's the least you can do. Why not do your part to make your local ice cream parlor a cash cow … even for the day?
