Michelle Obama's dating advice for her daughters

Next month Malia Obama will turn 13. This is not something lost on her parents. She's already entered her teenage years mentally, according to mom, Michelle, who accompanied both Malia and 10-year-old Sasha, to Cape Town this past week. In an interview with with ABC News, the first lady had some choice words for her girls about falling in love. "Choose people who lift you up," she said. "Find people who make you better."

It's a more romantic piece of advice then their dad, Barack, offered up last week.
"I'm not anticipating complete mayhem for the next four or five years, but I understand teenagehood is complicated," the President said in an separate interview with Good Morning America. "I should also point out that I have men with guns that surround them often, and a great incentive for running for reelection is that it means they never get in the car with a boy who had a beer, and that's a pretty good thing."

Any future suitor will be grilled by dad, who plans to "ask him for his GPA, find out what his intentions are in terms of career." Memo to Malia's prom date: bring a resume.

Dating advise for a thirteen year old? How about parenting advice for Michele. She forgot to tell them to wait until their 18 as I did and my girls are so much better for it. And yes, my son is also waiting. Choose people who lift you up and who make you better. That is good advise for anyone of any age for even choosing friends. However, it’s advice that the Obama’s themselves do not follow. Just look at their friends. Crooks, terrorists, murders… “Oh yeah, they lift us up because we are lower than scum”

I love the First parents. This family is what American values & morals are and they are on display for the whole world to see. Mr, Obama is not a w----monger, thief or liar. His and her pasts are clean (plus if there was ANYTHING/DIRT to be found, believe me, the Republican party looked under every rock and found NOTHING to use against them) and this first family represents all that is good as far as family values can be presented. I am very proud this educated very refined couple represents America on the world stage. They are a good looking family & perhaps the world at large can almost believe America has started to banish bigotry in this country. Mr. Obama is a good man. Support him, he really does have the people at heart.

I completely agree with both Barack & Michelle. You want somebody who earns your trust & whom you can be happy with for a lifetime! Oh yeah, and who can pay the bills. No losers, K?

I don't think she should be giving dating advice. After all...She did marry Barack Obama. I can't wait until he is out of office!!!

Perhaps I'm old-fashioned but I sincerely hope they do not intend to let their girls start dating at age 13!!

I wish all mothers will give such heart warming advice to their teen girls and these girls will not fall into wrong relationships and the world will be the better for.I did not expect less from the First Lady anyway. She was a teenager once.

I'm totally agree with them...a young man who will date my daughter must have a great attitude toward life and himself as well as making my daughter a better person. Bravo Mrs. Obama, such a great advice...
